Congrats Errant! I feel like it isn't often that my top pick actually wins."Half of the game is figuring out who the scum is. The other half is convincing everyone else that you're right." -- PlaysWithSquirrels, in Newbie 437-

vietnam as a winner is fine tbh, it's among the better rap entries the contest has seen at least from my perspective.
would've preferred india obviously but ohwell
correctly guessed that i would top 5, at leastShowEver wanted a playlist full of a lot of music I really dig? Here you go.
RateYourMusic page because song contests are like the only reason I'm still here.

OK I've been waiting for this moment so I could tell you guys.
The last four regular contests (not BOTB6), I've been submitting music from myself and my family. Did pretty well in the rankings, all things considered. Here's the info:
SC108: The Brotherhood of Dae Han - For the Glory of Olde Virginia
My cousin was the rhythm guitarist of this band and helped out a lot with the recording, which they did at home and it turned out pretty amazing considering that. This was by far the most successful of the family bands, I believe they played local stages at Warped twice and did a good amount of touring and stuff. Never got signed, but the album they put out (this was the title track) was pretty damn good. I might be fudging this but I feel like The BoD was active around the 2009-12 years and they were in Fort Collins, Colorado. The lead guitarist went on to play for Tickle Me Pink.
SC109: The Scourge of Carpathia - Release the Hostage
My brother's band! Based in Reno, Nevada and (I believe) active around the 2006-11 years. My brother was the drummer. They recorded this one in-studio in the Bay Area. These guys toured around the country and shared the stage with some decently big acts (main one I remember is Bedlight for Blue Eyes). This band was the foundation of a hardcore scene in my tiny northern Nevada hometown that saw me and a lot of other kids put together some honestly pretty bad stuff. But hey, it was fun.
SC110: She's So Provocative - Force, Balance, Push
My college band, active around 2011-12 and based in Reno. I was the singer. All our stuff was recorded at houses owned by people in other bands in the area. This one was a one-shot but it might be my favorite of the songs we did. The dude in the photo was our bassist. Looking back, I really wish I would've realized at the time that my natural singing range wasnotthe range I was using for SSP's music. I do way better at lower octaves, but I grew up on mostly male emo-hardcore-ska-pop punk singers who sang high, so that's what I tried to do. Oh well.
SC111: Justin Greenhouse - Losing Myself
This is the music my cousin (same one who played for The Brotherhood of Dae Han) has been making by himself for a while, and again he recorded it himself. I have no idea how he achieves this level of recording quality without going into a studio. And on top of that, the songs aregood. He's just very talented. And yeah he did everything on this song -- writing, vocals, instruments, electronics, the works. The project is a concept album, still not finished, and I don't know the story very well except that it's about zombies. I believe this is supposed to be the closing track.
Anyhoo. If anybody wants to hear more from any of these bands, PM me and I can send files or upload more stuff on Clyp or something. Obviously it's hard to come by on the Internet, since none of this music ever got professionally published.
And now I will get back to entering music people actually know!"Half of the game is figuring out who the scum is. The other half is convincing everyone else that you're right." -- PlaysWithSquirrels, in Newbie 437-

Congrats Vietnam! Nice top 3. Also nice being in the top 5, didn't expect that.
I was afraid, but I had to check at least my comments for your band. I was relieved to see I didn't write anything mean about the vocals. In post 135, toolenduso wrote:OK I've been waiting for this moment so I could tell you guys. ...-

I'm in under no illusions about my singing back then hahaIn post 138, SnowStorm wrote:I was afraid, but I had to check at least my comments for your band. I was relieved to see I didn't write anything mean about the vocals.
Not really. I mean one of my uncles was in a rock band in high school but I didn't even know that until I'd already been doing music stuff for a while. In post 142, Errantparabola wrote:Also that’s incredibly cool @toolenduso. If anything, it probably came from my cousin. He was a big influence on my brother and my brother was a big influence on me."Half of the game is figuring out who the scum is. The other half is convincing everyone else that you're right." -- PlaysWithSquirrels, in Newbie 437-
