We've kind of monopolized the Movie thread and people really want to talk about things in the movies. But it's getting annoying to half-spoiler protect people. So let's use this thread for Star Wars. Nothing but Star Wars. Don't let them end.
So Rey's parents being nobodies would be deeply satisfying to me in a way that half-baked and "shocking" twists would not be. Oh she's obiwan's daughter? Yawn. Oh she's Luke's daughter? Fuck that. Oh she's Luke's SISTER who was actually frozen as a baby? Yawn.
Not everyone who does something heroic and force related in Star Wars needs to be a Skywalker.
Oh and I've seen it elsewhere and would like to propagate the terminology "Holdo Maneuver" for jettisoning a craft in hyperspace through another vehicle as a kamikaze attack. It should absolutely be referred to as that moving forward.

Yeah Last Jedi was great. Not perfect but no Star Wars movie is. Is the main complaints just the humor (which has always been a part of Star Wars) and the Finn subplot? I actually like that Finn and co failed with it, shows that plans actually don't always work in space war.
so episode 7 was The Han Movie and this felt like The Luke Movie
I feel like they were building up to 9 being The Leia Movie but now what? Lando Movie? Chewbacca Movie? 2 hours of Kylo Ren designing a new edgy mask shirtless?

As far as the "wound up with the bad guys", it's war and intel. Shit happens off-screen. Just like how the death star plans ended up in rebel hands at the start of Episode IV which took 30 years to get a backstory for.

I just don't think every little thing needs to be spelled out nor should it be in any movie. That's how you ruin shit.

Kylo Ren explains in the TFA that they get the map from records from the Jedi archives or something like that. As to why a part of it is missing who knows.
Also don't know if I mentioned it but I liked TFA so I'm one who likes both TFA and TLJ. I don't know where I would placed them but IV V VII and VIII are definitely the best.
Think part of the problem is that the way JJ set things up in TFA implied that there were going to be answers and TLJ doesn't have any interest in answering them.
If you wanted to know those answers then you're probably going to feel disappointed with the movie.
I think the only big questions left over from TFA were Snoke on Rey's parents. I'm happy with Rey's parents not being anybody of notice. I think that's way better than making her Luke's daughter or something like that. Only other loose ends are like the map (which meh not a big deal) and Luke's light saber being found which also not a huge deal (I assume it has something to do with mining a gas giant duh).
