Imagine if in A New Hope, instead of Han arriving to the final battle in the Falcon, Rose arrives to knock Luke off his shot, and they both crash in the trench.

As the video I posted pointed out:

1. Why does Darth Vader, a guy who is basically not in the movie otherwise, get to end Jen Orso's movie?
2. It's filmed in this weird way that makes it seem like Vader is awesome and we're supposed to cheer him on. We just had a movie where supposedly we're supposed to care about the people who did all this stuff to help the rebellion. But the movie ends (other than Leia's "hope" thing) with Vader being badass. Like now we're supposed to cheer on this horrible embodiment of everything that the crew was giving their lives to defeat? It's so weird and inappropriate.
3. He slaughters some defenseless goons. Oh boy. That's so cool.

In reality, it's an admission from the movie that it wasn't strong enough to actually stand up on its own and some sort of fan service to get people back on board and tie the movie better into the overall series was needed even if that inclusion is ridiculous.
It's amazing. Almost every word of this post is wrong.

Darth Vader shows up at the end to slaughter rebel scum because it's the fucking
Tantive IV
they're running towards. He's finishing the story of "how did the rebels get the plans?" If they had simply jumped from beaming the plans into space, there's no tension left, and EVERYONE IN THE GALAXY KNOWS THE PLANS. So they artificially restrict the plans to this one minidisc, and it's moments ahead of a Sith Lord the entire time... intellectually you know they'll (probably) make it, but emotionally you're dragged in.

Also, if you're cheering for Vader, you might be a sociopath.

Back on topic of Last Jedi: I didn't hate it, like I hated TFA. I didn't love it, like I loved R1. There were great character moments, ruined by an inane and haphazard plot.

A couple of hours after viewing it, I figured out that cutting two lines would have improved TLJ dramatically:
  1. "The First Order reigns." (from the crawl) - no, you dumb sunufabitch, the First Order just got their hyperweapon blown up like...3 hours ago. The Republic may have been decapitated, but it still spans most of the Galaxy, and you neoNazis were just crawling back in from the Outer Rim or some bullshit. Pony up, get in some X-Wings, and blow their shit up.
  2. "They have eighteen hours of fuel left." - meanwhile, Rey spends at least three days on Porg Island with Luke (who was great), and the Ocean's Three crew spends some untold number of hours not being prisonraped on Casino Planet, plus travel time. The intercutting threads of the plot don't work here, and it's even more awkward than trying to figure out why hyperspace missiles aren't a thing.
Also, if you don't want anyone to come rescue the "Rebelistance", just jam their signal or something. It's completely atypical and horrific that the entire Republic turns a deaf ear to their plight.
Retired as of October 2014.

Ok, after pondering the movie after a bit there are a lot of flaws I noticed which will probably make it a worse viewing next time I watch but hey, it's good enough.

I'm pretty certain these are same points people have been mentioning for the past 14 pages but don't feel like checking.

Pros:
- Snoke's death scene and everything in that room after. This guy was just uninteresting and over the top evil. Didn't feel all that interested in learning his story. Kylo killing him was epic, and him fighting with Rey was also epic.
- Kylo is actually an interesting villain to me. Especially the scene where he's told to lose his "silly" mask encompasses everything about him. He wants to be edgy but he's failing, and he's insecure.
- Luke scenes were also really cool. And the reveal that he really did mess up hardcore on Kylo, and you can kind of see why Kylo hates him.
- The hacker guy coming across as a bit of a self interested guy, but then revealing he only wanted Rose's badge thing to directly help with hacking. And you're like "awwww he's a good guy after all". And then he betrays them which I genuinely didn't see coming. I like it when I'm surprised.
- Rey's parents being nobody.

Cons:
- I had a hard time accepting that the rebellion which is now literally around 15 people now is that important to the universe, that the entire first order needs them dead. It's like 15 people lol. I mean I was rooting for them because they're the main characters, but they've already lost. Their army is gone. If they escape great, but the universe is still going to have to start from scratch.
- I also don't know how every movie ends with a great victory against this first order, and then all progress gets reset right away.
- Why didn't purple hair just tell the plan to everyone to avoid a mutiny?

Characters were ok. I understand the hate for Rose, but she wasn't that bad. Finn didn't feel completely useless either like I heard some complaints. He had a complete arc. Agreed with a lot of people that it would be more fitting for him to die though. Wish we could get more development about Rey. She feels alone and she's been alone all her life, but I still don't feel like we actually really know her beyond that.

I'd call that more a con than a pro. I agree that his death scene was a good scene, but they could have made the person who died in that scene be an actual character rather than just some random evil force sensitive dude.
Who said that?
Chamber. It's all a conspiracy.
Or is it?

TLJ is on pace to earn about $600M-$700M less than TFA.

not too surprising. attack of the clones only made about 60% of the money Phantom Menace did, which is what TLJ is about on track for.

also this

i'd flip that around and say that people were star wars starved before Phantom Menace and TFA. TLJ and Rogue One both made over a billion dollars in box office alone (and as we all know star wars profits are only partially box office driven), so it's not like they're having trouble justifying making new ones or expanding the universe further. TLJ wasn't like Batman vs. Superman or something where the hardcore fans saw it opening night and then basically no one came or something.

If you want Star Wars fatigue, watch for the Solo movie coming out that has gotten very little in the way of marketing, had a switch of directors, etc.

When you adjust for inflation, Empire Strikes back got only 55% of A New Hope's box office.

Anyone got a link to that anti-feminist 46 minute version I’ve been reading about?

Attack of the Clones is objectively the best Star Wars movie ever made
