wgeurts Top 50 Songs

Woooooooo.

Inspired by Davsto's thread and an unhealthy dosis of boredom stemming from an even unhealthier ammount of last-minute preperation for exams. Most of these will be various forms of Rock, ranging from fairly well known to hideously obscure. Be warned. I'll probably post a song each day or so starting at 50 once I've compiled a list. Will be interesting to compare to in a few years.

[#50/50] Voyage - by Atlas Bird

"Leave us behind - break the mirror don't regret
All the hours that we lost - in the fire of our past"

I found this song late into 2016, I was just absent-mindedly listening to whatever Spotify thought I would tolerate with it's radio mode, but this one was deemed worthy of adding to my collection. It's apparently by some rather unkown band from Germany. I added it to some playlist, and didn't really pay much attention to it. Upon repeat listenings I started liking it more, and the lyrics are also pretty good. This is a pretty good spot to start the list with heh.

[#49/50] Dear Dictator - by Saint Motel

"Everybody tends to disagree, on just how evil,
A single human being should ever be, and all your bones they scream for more."

I must admit I've known this song for like half my life so it being here is also partially nostalgia as it isn't exactly a musical masterpiece. It's really catchy though, and I've never really grown bored of it despite listening to it for years. Saint Motel has number of pretty good songs, similar to this one in style.

Perhaps this will get a 5.5/10 from Rando :p

[#48/50] Something To Believe In - Young the Giant

"Everyday when I speak to the moon
Pale as a ghost in the afternoon
Tragedy has a hold of my mind
But I can see the lie between the lines"

A piece somewhat different to the last two! I found this one two years ago and it's randomly got stuck in my head at the most useless moments, such as in the middle of writing an essay yesterday.

I would never be able to pick just 50 songs. Even if I picked only my favorite song from each artist I listen to a lot I'd probably be over 100...

I'd have a hard time ranking numbers 2-50.
I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.

[#47/50] Crossroads (Live at Winterland) - Cream

"I went down to the crossroads
Fell down on my knees
Down to the crossroads
Fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above for mercy
'Take me, if you please'"

The first older piece on my list, although not the last! Everything about this track is great, Eric Clapton being a musical god. The live guitar solo is fantastic emotionally and ryhtym wise, and the bass is amazing too. It's such a good piece to listen too, it somewhat deserves to go into a time capsule.

[#46/50] Water & Power - Cold War Kids

"Are you willing? Are you brave?
Who could make you feel afraid?"

Cold War Kids is a band that I feel is really underappreciated if not just for the fact they're almost completely unknown. Their latest work isn't as good but they've made some really good pieces which will show up throughout this ranking.

[#45/50] Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Cage The Elephant

"Oh no, I can't slow down, I can't hold back
Though you know, I wish I could
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked
Until we close our eyes for good"

Cage The Elephant is a pretty cool band that to my suprise not many people know about. The lead singer decided to write this after asking one of his friends why he dealt in drugs, his response was "Their ain't no rest for the wickerd", and this piece followed. Can recommend listening to the lyrics.

Instrumentally, it's definitely one of their best.
But Cream without Jack Bruce vocals is just never going to meet its full potential

[#44/50] Swim - Late Night Episode

"To the world i see today
Maybe will meet again
You were my friend
You were my sweet mistake"

I honestly have know where I came across these guys but they've made some pretty cool tracks, they've got a sound that can be quite comparable to some of the work by the Chili Peppers. The opening riff is way too catchy, I ended up learning how to play it on my guitar heh.

[#43/50] Cave - Grayson Erhard

So this piece is by Grayson Erhard, one of my favourite guitarists out there right now. This guy's music helped me through a rough period of time, I ended up learning how to play one of his pieces on guitar whilst in hospital and posted a video of it on my instagram. He saw it, and gave me all his sheet music (including for those currently unpurchasable) for free, as well as a collection of lossless sound recordings for his works. He's not very well known, but I enjoy seeing how his style develops, and I'm literally chatting with this guy about music theory as well as him giving me advice. He's an amazing guy. This isn't his best work and more will follow.
