Central Park is a good building but that is the only cool building in Sydney.

Like the UTS main building is an eyesore and visible from about everywhere.

We are getting a cool new building at Darling Harbour though.

Words cannot describe how much Manly is despised by New South Welshmen.

I don't. Sydney is Wynyard to Broadway to Potts point triangle. Everything else can fuck off.

Suburbs only need names if you're meeting somewhere there.
Otherwise it's in general conversation and you end up having to say near the city anyway because the person doesn't travel enough.

i dont know anything about any suburbs outside of cities in other countries

if you told me about a suburb near chicago it'd be as meaningless as if you said a suburb near california. i'd likely have no idea which was which

so i don't see why i'd expect someone to know the difference between burwood and ashburton (melbourne suburbs) so i just say 'melbourne'

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suburbs_a ... Australia) :
This Australian usage of the term differs from common American and British usage, where it typically means a smaller, frequently separate residential community outside, but close to, a larger city. The Australian usage is closer to the American or British use of "district" or "neighborhood", and can be used to refer to any portion of a city.
So like, for example, Silver Spring is a suburb of DC. It's a separate municipality outside, but adjacent to the city. They have their own local government, etc. Aussie suburbs are, like, still in the municipality of Sydney and run under its city government and shit.

No idea if it’s an Aussie thing but I know that Montreal and Halifax, among other Canadian cities, do this
