At some point today, you may have been in the presence of strangers. Take a moment and try to recall those people. Imagine what they look like.

I encounter strangers on the train during my commute

the first thing I notice is how much of the shared seat space they are hogging

I have autism, resulting in social anxiety, so I'm an observant. I notice everything and nothing really gets noticed earlier than the other. So I clicked the bottom option.

Why am I one of only two out of 15 to vote the bottom one. What is wrong with everyone... you should not pick the top two ones, but you still do.

I notice if someone has dark skin or boobs in the same way that I notice if someone has red hair or is wearing a backpack.

The real question you're asking here is if I give a shit and the answer to that is no.

I noticed the trigger warning on the thread first, but voted gender since I assume you meant IRL.

what exactly is the purpose of this thread. also why put a trigger warning on something if it's unclear before or even after reading what you are warning people about?

People are biased towards race/gender. It is hardwired into us as an evolutionary protection mechanism for intermingling with people of other races/genders to protect us from outside bacteria/diseases/illness because one race has built up different immunities than others.

I want to post in this thread but I don't want to post in this thread.

I'll compromise by posting about how I don't want to post in this thread

I didn't say that.

You could say we are cautiously optimistic towards other races. This goes across the board IMO. I mean, is extreme inequality/segregation a good thing? Absolutely not! But that's not what I am claiming. All I am claiming is that people have a preference for their kin, essentially.

I get that there could be some kind of attempt at an argument about race (I am NOT saying the argument is valid, I'm just saying I could believe that someone could attempt to make one and I'm too lazy to evaluate the argument), but you said that the same applies to gender. Evolution only happens when people of different genders "intermingle".* Evolution is very strongly biased in favor of intermingling with other genders.

*Or well technically there are some people who are exceptions but there aren't enough of them to continue the human race at its current population.
Who said that?
