Song Contest 130 (Results posted!)

[Parama]

Greece – One of those cases where, yeah, this song is pretty nice, but also kind of featureless. She’s a pretty decent singer, I guess? (DECENT)

Venezuela – Hmm this is… interesting, but in the way that it takes forever to get going and also has a fake ending so the meat of the song feels really short… the meat of the song is okay enough but I don’t love it either. Maybe will do more for me on relisten. (DECENT)

Liechtenstein – Way too sugary and sweet for my tastes. Doesn’t really actively sound bad but there is absolutely no appeal to this for me. (MEDIOCRE)

Latvia – Eehh. This is super generic metalcore. They occasionally hit upon a decent riff but it feels kind of accidental when they do, and the vocals don’t really have any appeal whatsoever for me. (AVERAGE)

Greenland – I dislike Mr. Bungle on the premise that they tend to be experimentation and weirdness without any real… purpose. They sound weird for the sake of it. This song at least has a grounded center to it, so it’s got that over some other songs I’ve heard, but it doesn’t really sound “fun” enough to work for me. (AVERAGE)

Sweden – This is a band I’ve been aware of for a while (pretty sure I even listened through one of their albums at some point) but their vocals don’t quite do it for me and the metal isn’t really… intense in the way I like. This is still pretty dang solid regardless, it’s just not something I see myself being into a full album of. You should check out Feast For Water by Messa if you like these guys though, some similar vibes coming off this as that album. (DECENT)

Poland – Solid groove, okay instrumentation, I don’t really -mind- this one but it just doesn’t do anything for me other than sound alright. (AVERAGE)

Peru – Ahh, no, I absolutely can’t with these vocals. No way.

Iceland – This entire album is doom metal working for me in a way it hasn’t really before and this is probably the highlight, just a crushing, intense monolith of a song. Legit my only complaint about it is that the ending feels a tiny bit dragged out, or like, too quiet and also too dragged out, but I mean, that’s a nitpick.

Ooo this is a fun start!
I really like their sound and the vocals work really well with the style
Also I like the video. Crazy weird in a very fun way!

Greenland: Mr. Bungle - None Of Them Knew They Were Robots

This is totally strange, but intentionally so which makes it really intriguing!
I wouldn't like, go out of my way to listen to it, but I appreciate what they were going for.

Djibouti: Emily Blunt - The Cover is Not the Book

Okay yes this is mine and I knew it wouldn't get too many points, but hear me out.
It's a good tune from a good movie with a good message! It's a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it, probably my favourite from this movie!
So I do hope at least someone enjoyed it!
I do with they had a studio/radio version so it was a little more polished/less movie scene-y, but oh well!

Yemen: Pep - Devagarinho

So this was not what I was expecting at all.
Uh, I mean if I were driving down the street in slow-mo in a movie in a "fuck da police" manner I would definitely crank the bass on this and be a badass!
I see no other time to play it though.

Iceland: Ancestors - The Warm Glow

Hmm...I mean, it's alright, but the guitar really is too much for my liking. Honestly just not a fan of electric guitars in most iterations, including this one. Might like it otherwise, but meh.

This is fun and simple, and I like the vocals, though I don't anticipate this is a widely held opinion.
The repetitive note hits are really catchy for the ear, especially being so high!
Like, this almost has to be a theremin. Is this a theremin!?!?
Plus there's a fun breakdown in the middle and a fucking key change at the end! Love it XD

Very dramatic and emotional! I wish I could understand it because I bet this has great story behind it!

Hmm...I dunno the voice was a little harsh for the music or something. I didn't think it melded as well as it could have. He needs a bigger ensemble imo, which I don't say very often.
