I’m like blown away. One of the best death metal albums I’ve ever heard so far. I might be seeing it with rose colored glasses right now though. Was listening while I was stoned before bed last night. The way they ended the song “The Battle of Yaldabaoth” was BDE.

So if you're into facebook at all you should check out the "albums of bikini bottom" page. You won't be dissapointed

Never been a fan of Infant Annihilator. Too much in-your-face, over-the-top instrumentation. I get it's all part of their shtick, but it becomes boring quickly. From what I hear though, this is actually somewhat of a serious attempt?

I mean it's definitely the most "serious attempt" if you wanna put it that way. But it's still IA. Yaldabaoth is a Death Metal/Tech Death Masterpiece in my opinion though.

Probably going to give it a pass, still not exactly my cup of tea. Admittedly haven't heard much out of tech-death this year that I'd consider gripping. Fields of Elysium dropped an album some time ago and it was very solid and remarkable in its mastery of fundamentals. I wouldn't place it in any higher tier, however.

How do you feel about Cattle Decapitation? This new album will probably be a banger. They always are.

I just checked out Fields of Elysium but they didn't do anything for me. I really liked the drumming but I couldn't really get into it otherwise. I feel like the vocal production was non-existant.

It's what I would call tech-death for people sick of tech-death: not very technical, relies a lot on bread-and-butter as opposed to virtuosity, songwriting > soloing, etc.

Can lead to an experience not as engaging as possible, granted, but it's a breath of fresh air to me. Too many bands in the genre have become over-reliant on playing ability alone.

Have you listened to Archspire at all? They're definitely still in-your-face Tech-Death but they keep a real focus on songwriting.

I would say they do Tech-Death the best in my opinion.

But playing ability is kind of the whole point of Tech-Death.

Oh yes, naturally, that comes with the package. My issue is when talent at playing alone, by itself, is favored over constructing engaging songs. Someone can be very competent or even a wizard at using a guitar, but it's all for naught if their tracks serve no purpose.

I agree I guess the songwriting in Infant just makes sense to me.
Now, this shit is just wacko. Atonal is weird.

i'm super picky about tech death, that archspire record i literally can't see as anything other than a joke with how over the top the playing is but technically at its core doesn't interest me anymore. i had my prog metal binge when i was still a teen, i can't be impressed by skill anymore really. i just want stuff that sounds cool

I just don’t see how anyone that considers themselves a metal head could not see Archspire as “cool.”
Your post reads as really pretentious btw

Can we all agree that this new Veil of Maya single is trash though? Like they’ve just become a shitty Periphery.
I don’t want to be a member to whatever club they’ve got going on.

Like what happened to the good ole Veil of Maya??

Now, I really enjoyed the last two albums with Lukas,
Matriarch
and
False Idols
(I’ve even got a vocal cover up on YouTube for “Pool Spray” if anyone is interested), but I cannot get behind whatever this new shit is. I can’t fully judge until the album comes up but if it’s anything like “Members Only” then I will not be happy.
