the best part of song contest is finding the one song each contest that you genuinely cannot understand why any person would enjoy, and watching it place in the top 5 every time

If this is the cover I heard on the local hard ass-rock radio station, your chances are probably quite good... but I'm going to try to compete anyway.

This is fun, but I love when you get turned on to something new the most.

Also introducing someone else to something they turn out to love deeply. I remember introducing DeasVail to Eisley to this day.

I genuinely wonder sometimes about some songs. Like I get that what I post might not appeal to everyone, but I don't think I've ever submitted something that was legit unlistenable to people. And maybe I'm bias because it's music I listen to.

I dunno, some songs man...

I know there have definitely been entries where having a good drug trip at some point during your life was required to enjoy them.

(This isn't a moral criticism)
(Also I don't qualify in this regard)

(The acid rap song was probably the lowest point of my song contest experience though)

I'd be curious as to which songs this applies to and how many of my entries it applies to and whether or not you think I do drugs based on my entries.

(Acid rap is legit one of my favorite albums of all time despite not submitting that song)

I'd rather someone post something "unlistenable" than something incredibly generic and not great because at least I have something to digest instead of being like "more vanilla pudding"

i agree with what panzer said. back when i used to submit in these contests, i would do like a tier list and in a weird way, i almost hated the songs in my middle tier (where i put all the tracks i found boring/mediocre) more than the ones i put at the bottom. at least the songs i hate stick out in my mind.

Also I hold the opinion that the highly arbitrary attribute of "fun" is very important. That's why I didn't really like the wiggly guitar song. Felt masturbatory and masturbation is only fun for the masturbator.

I do like bon iver tho. And that's not fun in the way people typically think, I just love doing bad Justin Vernon impressions. Also skinny love makes me cry if I'm not making fun of him so...ya.

Short answer: not yours, to the extent that I'm surprised you thought I was talking about your entries. I am not prepared to speak to the substances you recreationally ingest.

I disagree with you and Empire in re: entries I find unlistenable. Yes, those entries are memorable, but so is cracking your ribs.

Why don't you write me a moonlight night
And wear your finest hour
And I will wear these Aching, heartbreaking years
Til one day I shall wear midnight
The failure mode of clever is asshole.
