Ahoy mateys and welcome to the Pirate Game!
You, and everyone else who signs up for this game, is a pirate on a ship that found a treasure chest of 100 gold coins.
In accordance with pirate law, here is how you will split the treasure:
1: All pirates will be randomly placed in order of 'seniority'.
2: The most senior pirate becomes the pirate captain and will propose a plan on how to split the gold.
3: All pirates will then vote yes or no on whether they find this plan acceptable.
4: If the vote passes (and the captain wins ties) then the gold is distributed as the plan dictates.
5: If the majority voted no, a mutiny occurs and the pirate captain is killed, with the second most senior pirate becoming the new captain. The new captain now proposes a new plan, starting again from step 2.
This goes on until a plan is voted acceptable.
Collect as much gold as you can through multiple iterations of the game - but if you die in an iteration you will lose 50% of your stored gold.
The first pirate to collect 400 gold is the winner. If more than one pirate has over 400 on the same round then the pirate with the most gold is the winner.
Here is the Scientific American article describing some game theory.
