I think you should try to do all the categories as long as you know eight songs. Could be more interesting that way even

I think if the different interpretations were diverse enough, it might dodge the unfamiliarity penalty too. I'm just struggling to think of any song where there'd be the required range of approaches.

this seems to be in mandarin - i always wonder about languages with a tonal inflection how that comes across in music where you don't get to do it, especially in this song that has the sound of a western "post-punk" sort of vocal style where if there's tonal inflection in it i don't notice it

yah from my very limited knowledge of both Chinese music scenes and the Mandarin language there's (or at least there was) a pretty big Chinese post-punk scene and a lot of them cover topics about the anxieties of the youths in like the 90s and 00s I think a lot of it cuz (also from my limited knowledge of Chinese history) there was a lot of disconnect between generations of people coming into adulthood in an era of social changes with complexity that I'm not at all equipped to understand

also I chose the song cuz I like a bunch of songs with wacky crazy drumming and I thought it might be neat to instead use a song with simple but very solid drumming
