That's because the answer was "cool".
That also doesn't work. The correct syllable would be "cull", not "cool".
It sounds like "cool" with a non-American accent.

Are you seriously insinuating the Americans speak better English than the rest of the world? That's the tone I'm getting here. I pronounce it "kill", myself, but "cool" is perfectly viable if you don't elongate the vowel sound.

No, this has nothing to do with any country at all. You're the one who brought up "American" accents. I'm only differentiating between the proper pronunciation of the word and improper pronunciations. I wouldn't dare to insinuate that Americans are the only ones who know how to pronounce that name, nor do I even remotely believe that all Americans *can* properly pronounce it. That doesn't make "cool" any less invalid, however. "ae" does not make an "oo" sound, no matter the elongation of vowels or lack thereof.
Cool and cull sound almost the same if it's said quickly anyway. I could counterargue that "ae" does not make a "u" sound either, but I digress.
P. Edit:
at "eggs" -> "ex"

There's no such thing as A Song of Fire and Ice, though. Not to my knowledge, anyway, and it's so close to something else that doesn't fit.
(As an aside, "looks right" doesn't always mean "is right". I consider it a standard courtesy to wait for confirmation regardless.)

Wouldn't giving the overall answer imply the successful solution of 3a and 3b?

I'm steering clear until we go back to the old way.
