"O" aka Circular voting - Game Over!

I had an idea this morning about a game I’d like to try, but it will require a largish number of people. It’s quite simple:

The only possible moves are

voting

and

unvoting

(and discussing). The object of the game is to form “circles”; the bigger, the better. So what is a circle?

Example:

“A votes B, B votes C, C votes A” = Circle of three.

Once a circle is completed, its members can not change their votes until end of round.

Example 2:

There is a vote chain A -> B -> C -> D -> E. Then D changes his vote to B. Now A and E can’t get into the circle, and B-C-D can’t get out.

Got it?

A round will end when two or fewer players aren’t in a circle, and when this occurs, the smallest circle of players will be eliminated. In case of a tie, the circle formed last will be eliminated.

(Edit: If one or two people are in no circles at end of turn, it will count as if they formed a circle of 1 or 2 respectively, and they are thereby eliminated.)

After a few rounds I will declare ‘final round’.

(Edit 2: When

more than half of the players

have been eliminated, the final round starts.)

After that round, the survivors will be ranked according to the total size of the circles they have been in, highest totals wins.

A and E aren't in a circle, so, AFAICT, B, C and D are eliminated.

As this was worded, you would have been right, but I didn't make myself clear enough...

The aim of this rule was simply to end the round when there would be no point in waiting for the last players. (The last one or two players can never form a circle that is big enough. A group of three does still have a choice though.)

So in the example, if ABCDE had been the only players, then A and E would have been eliminated. But my goal is to start with at least 15, maybe 20 players, so we can go on for a few rounds and still keep things interesting.

Yes, a group of two is perfectly possible, but remember that the survivors will be ranked by total size of the circles they have been in.

I'd be thrilled if we could get up to about 20 people, but I realise we should get going. Everyone reading this is still very welcome to sign up, just check the rules (they are simple) and type /in. I will kick this off in about eight hours from this post.

(I considered joining the game myself since this will pretty much run by itself, but I'm not sure what issues may arise, this being the first game and all. So I think it might be wiser to stay out, what do you say?)

This means I will have to announce beforehand when the final round will be. I'll add this to the first post: "When more than half of the players have been eliminated, the final round starts". (In our case this means when 7 or more have been eliminated)

I updated first post. I won't keep track of chains since that will simply be more confusing than helping when it gets outdated, but completed circles shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure what the best number for a circle would be, but I don't think it's either 12 or 7 as suggested. If we go for 12, then every one gains the same amount of points, but if we go for 7, then the other half of the players can get up to 5 points.

There are other things to consider as well, like what is a safe enough position in a chain... Stoofer, what would you do if we get up 12 when shadowlurker's not here? Shadowlurker, do you really dare to wait for 12? And what will the others think about the one person who closes a circle before they even got to post?

I'll go for a different tactics to see what happens.

Actually Jordan had the win in his hands (post 169), had he realized how the situation was. (I will not give a judgement on his editing, and simply state that he was eliminated. I'm just glad I didn't have to make a challengable decision.) And I guess I have to thank my lucky star for JDodge's mistake in the last round, I was quite sure I would be eliminated.

I'm eager to hear your thoughts about the game! What was good, what went wrong, and what could have made it more interesting? (I have a few ideas, but I would like to hear yours first!)
