to be totally honest I don't think I like this game much. It basically boils down to rock-paper-scissors with more talking. I might try experimenting with a different payout table though.(I wonder if Cuban Smoker still has his, that one was interesting)

Probably not as fun to watch, but I had fun playing it. I'm not sure how many games of this it would take before I got bored, though. The first game was good. Maybe one more? I never got a role for the second game.

I'd certainly be up for a different payout table.

Well, I'd like not to shoot, you being of the same clan and all. I mean, I don't want to shoot at someone who's of the same clan.

OTOH, I was lying, so I suppose that I should shoot you. Since that's good for me now.

OTOOH, we learned from last game that if you are the second person revealing, and you lie, that you won't prosper, which makes me think that since we KNOW that that you decided that I would bank on it, which makes me think I shouldn't shoot you.

OTOOOH, and this falls in line with you being the sort that signed up on 18 July and as of this moment has 71 posts, you've posted so much that I begin to think that you can't have devoted enough time to thinking about this game to have had time to have had the last insight. So I should shoot you.

OTOOOOH, your username is "Someone," and anyone with that snarky a sense of humor can't be counted upon not to think laterally. So you probably did realize that we KNOW that liars don't prosper, and are doubtless thinking that I therefore know much the same. So I shouldn't shoot you.

OTOOOOOH, I was lying when I said I was lying before. I really am Tails mafia. So it's in my best interest to shoot you. So that's what I think I'll do.

<Shoots.>

There's an interesting meta-psychology to the game. It feels a lot worse to shoot someone when they don't shoot you than to not shoot someone on the opposite team if they
do
shoot you. Because of this, I think a lot more games than not will end up with both players shooting.

Well, in all the completed games so far, shooting has been the correct choice. The missing element was that neither player convinced the other player not to shoot. The only way to earn points is if your opponent makes an innaccurate appraisal of the situation.

Something to take note of though is that your risk of losing points is neither increased or decreased by always shooting. It's the wrong choice as often as it's the right one.

Certainly, and I wasn't arguing to the contrary. I was just saying that the psychology of getting shot versus that of shooting someone will more often lead to shooting than not, regardless of the rightness of the play.

Actually I was concurring with you, while illustrating what makes the shooting bias so intriguing. What I was pointing out was that not only was the always shoot bias not based on a rational analysis of the game, but there was no rational analysis of the game that yielded always shooting as a viable strategy.

On another note, does anybody find it odd that this game is an offshoot of Mafia and that the fictional character who would most enjoy it(Vizzini, from The Princess Bride as pointed out by Kelvin) was a Sicilian?

I'm thinking of a variation where, by maneuvering your opponent into saying a word or series of words, you get to find out what side he's on, or some other posting restriction perhaps.

He and Totem both.

Kelvin, 10 paces at dawn. Or equivalently, maybe PB will send us some coin-flips. Or, if it's ready, we could try out this new game.

I'll have to disagree. If this was real life yes, but me for one, in a game type setting think that it is a lot more fun to shoot the opponent. Actually, I wouldn't want to be the one not shooting while the other one shoots. Why did you shoot Mathcam?

Hm, reading back on my post that you just quoted, it turns out I meant almost the exact opposite of what I actually said:

It feels a lot worse to not shoot someone on the opposite team if they do shoot you than it does to shoot someone when they don't shoot you.

The nont-sensical psychology is that if you shoot someone who doesn't shoot you, it's like "Oh well. Too bad I just killed that guy. At least I'm still alive," as opposed to "Hm. Not only am I dead, but I didn't kill the guy while I was at it." The latter sure feels like it sucks a lot more, even though they are equal in the context of the game.

"I'm tails, what are you?" Macros said. "You'll find out as soon as I shoot you." was mikehart's less than friendly response. Neither could take it anymore. Both put down their guns. "Come 'er brother." Macros said, shaiking hands with mikehart.

mikehart and Macros, both heads family, chose to trust each other. Tie game(Again).

Kelvin, I'm heads mafia, and I'd bet that you are too, so chances are that I'm not going to shoot you. Any feedback you could give would be much appreciated.
