Mafia Scum Head-to-Head (Main) Draft League Details

Also known as the "main" league

Draft Time:
Sunday, March 16th at 6:00pm EDT

Commission and Co-Comissioner

Zoraster is the commissioner. In the event of any absence, Locke Lamora will take over commissioner duties.

Draft Order

Undecided

Draft

This will be a 16 team Snaking draft (i.e. the last person to draft in one round will be the first to draft in the subsequent round). Assuming I remember, I will pause the draft for a 5 minute potty break after the 10th round has finished. The Draft Order will be published around a week before the draft. Trades of draft position may be made, but only of ENTIRE sets of picks, not individual picks (e.g. you can't just trade your 51st pick). Any trade must be made 24 hours before the draft and PMed to the commissioner.

Divisions and Leagues

There are two Leagues (Otter and Tiger). Each league is divided into two divisions of four teams each.

Scheduling

Each team will play their each other team in their League twice. They will play each team out of their league once. The season will be structured as so:

Weeks 1-3: Divisional Games (First Set)
Weeks 4-7: River Otters vs. Bengal Tigers and Sea Otters vs. Siberian Tigers
Weeks 8-11: River Otters vs. Sea Otters and Bengal Tigers vs. Siberian Tigers (League Games 1)
Weeks 12-15: River Otters vs. Siberian Tigers and Sea Otters vs. Bengal Tigers
Weeks 16-19: River Otters vs. Sea Otters and Bengal Tigers vs. Siberian Tigers (League Games 2)
Weeks 20-22: Divisional Games (Second Set)

Scoring Categories

Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), On-base Percentage (OBP), Total Bases (TB)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Quality Starts (QS), Saves + Holds (SV+H), Innings Pitched (IP)

Spoiler: Stats Definitions
Total Bases: The total number of bases a player reaches through hits. A single counts as 1, a double 2, a home run 4. (Slugging % is TB/AB)
On Base Percentage: (Hits+Walks+Hit By Pitch)/(At Bats+Walks+Hit By Pitch+Sacrifice Fly)
Quality Starts: A QS is given when a pitcher pitches at least 6 innings and gives up 3 or fewer runs.
WHIP: (Walks+Hits)/Inning Pitched
Saves+Holds: Saves+is not the winning pitcher, enters in a save position, records at least one out, and leaves the game before the game is over without relinquishing the lead.

Roster

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OFx3, Utilx2, SPx2 RPx2, Px4, BNx6, DL

Weekly Transactions

In any given week, you may make three transactions.

Head to Head One Win

Each week, beginning on Monday, a new game will start between two teams. At the end of the week, the team that has won the most of the scoring categories will get a win.

Minimum Inning Requirement

Your pitchers must pitch at least 16 innings or you will forfeit all 5 of the pitching categories.

Trade Deadline

The deadline for all trades is August 17th. Any trade agreed to on this day or before this day will go through.

Trade Review

This league is on "commissioner reviews" trades. Trades will be vetoed by the commissioner in the case of suspected collusion, but will not be vetoed on the basis of simple "unfair" trades.

Playoffs

This league uses a 6-team playoff system. The top team in each Division will move on to the playoffs. In addition, the next two best team records will also go on to the playoffs. The two teams with the best records, regardless of record, will get byes in the first round of the playoffs.

The playoffs take place the 23rd, 24th and 25th weeks of the season.

Auction Roto Keeper Details

Draft Time:
Saturday, March 8th at 1:00pm EST
Appeal to Drop Keeper Deadline:
Friday, March 7th at 1:00pm EST

Commissioner and Co-Commissioner

Zoraster is the commissioner. In the event of any absence, Locke Lamora will take over commissioner duties.

Keeper Setup:

It will be Auction + $5.

We can keep a maximum of
6
players.

Players retained on a team may keep a player for the price they bought him at the auction the year before + $5.
Players acquired off the waiver wire who were NOT drafted may be kept the following year at $5, no matter what the FAAB cost.
Players who were DROPPED by a team and then acquired by another team may be kept at the same price as the original team would have.
Players who were TRADED may be kept at the same rate as the team who traded it to them.

If a player was already kept from the year before, their price will continue to rise $5. So Player X is drafted for $10 in 2013, kept for $15 in 2014, kept for $20 in 2015, etc.

Before the auction next year, I'll ask each team who they want to keep.

Auction Setup:

Everyone will start with
$280
(raised from 260 so that it'll be an average of $10 per roster spot). Nominators will have
30 seconds
to make their nomination so make sure you have your guys queued up. It will be 10 seconds between bids. Yahoo predicts that our auction will take
2 hours and 20 minutes

Rosters:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OFx5, Util, SPx3 RPx2, Px4, BNx6 = 28 players

Corner Infielder means you can play either a 1B or 3B there. Middle Infielder means you can play either a 2B or SS at the position.

Statistics:

Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), On-base Percentage (OBP), Net Stolen Bases (NSB)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Quality Starts (QS), Net Saves and Holds (NSVH)

Waiver Wire

This will use FAAB with a budget of $100 with continuous waivers. In other words, there are no free agents, everyone not on a team is on the waiver wire. When you pick someone up, you will be asked to enter a bid. The person who bids the highest that day gets the player the following day.

Players
MAY
include FAAB budget (unlimited) OR up to $10 of the budget for the following year's auction (however, no player may put himself lower than $260 or more than $300 for the following season) in a trade if they both EXPLICITLY agree to it by PMing the commissioner.

You are not limited in the number of transactions you make.

Innings and Game Limits

After your pitchers have pitched a total of 1500 innings, no further pitching statistics will be be counted.
For each position, once that position has played 160 games, no further statistics will be counted for that position (outfield is an aggregate 850 games)

Trade Deadline

The trade deadline is August 4th. This is much earlier than the other league's in order to prevent too much tomfoolery with the keepers.

Trade Review

This league is on "commissioner reviews" trades. Trades will be vetoed by the commissioner in the case of suspected collusion, but will not be vetoed on the basis of simple "unfair" trades.

Off Season Trading

From August 4th to the end the season, trades will be locked and the commissioner will not entertain them. Once the season is over, managers may trade players and they may negotiate with money for the next season's draft up to $20 per trade as long as it does not leave either player with more than $320 or less than $240. You may not trade money for the season after next. These off-season trades are trades of the
right to keep
a player at its keeper price. A manager must still pay to keep the player before the next season.

Following Season Keepers

Managers must choose their keepers at least ____ week(s) (unsettled) before the auction by PMing the commissioner. The commissioner will then announce who is being kept and what the final budgets of each team will be.

Rotisserie Scoring

It's real simple: for each of the 10 categories, everyone is ranked first to last. First place in the category gets 10 points, second 9 points, etc. until last place in the category finishes with 1 point. At the end of the season, whoever has the most points wins (maximum being 100 points, minimum 10).

Okay guys, I've posted above a bunch of information about the leagues. This is mostly just the stuff from last year. I am perfectly open to any suggestions on how to change things for the better, so none of the information above is set in stone.

Also, please /in to sign up for this coming year's season.

also, gorc joined the yahoo league's reactivation, so I guess he's in.

not a problem!

Note: Our auction league now has all the pre-existing teams filled. I would love to get one more team though (I discussed how I'd do that earlier).

EDIT: Actually, I think gorc is our 10th maybe? Sensfan hasn't signed up yet, but he's almost always in.

Managed to join the main league.

Didn't get anything for the keeper league though, but I'm listed as in for that as well?

I think I took over one of the teams in the main league?

I'm not unwilling to play in the keeper league as well, I'm just kinda confused by the draft system there.

we can walk you through it, but it is a little more challenging.

The basics are that each team gets 280 dollars to spend on an expanded roster. Each manager takes a turn nominating a player. People bid on them as they would in an auction. The person who bids the most wins the player. So you can choose to either go with a strategy to go after a few superstars and lots of bad players or a lot of middle ground players.

The complication is that it's a keeper league. At the beginning of the season (probably a week or so before the auction), each team can choose up to 6 of their players to "keep" by paying what his price was last year plus $5. So for example, I bought Anthony Rizzo last year for $20. If I wanted to keep him this year, I'd pay $25 before the auction begins, and no one else could buy him. If you choose not to keep a player, you can still bid on him later. So it's likely that most people will start the draft down anywhere from $50 to $150.

If Sensfan doesn't sign up again, you can take over his team and keep his players. If he does, we'll have to come up with special rules for your team. My suggestion is that after everyone selects their keepers, you can go through and pick up to 6 players from everyone's rosters at the price last year + $2 (so a $3 discount).

Yeah 6 players from unkept players seems fine as an expansion team.

As for the waiver wire, are you submitting a single bid for a player, can you bid 0, and are the bids blind in that case?

Yeah, for waiver wire bids are blind at the next day they resolve. You may always bid 0.

Almost always a bid of $0 would win a waiver claim last year. Most people bid something <$10 "just in case". Waiver budget was pretty much entirely irrelevant - people had $100's left at the end of the season iirc. Not sure there's really a fix for that other than going to something like weekly waiver resolutions to increase the chances that multiple people would claim a player at the same time.

I believe it's mostly meant to eliminate the luck factor that comes into play with having a waiver order, I don't think it's meant to actually be a major factor other than when more than one team wants the same player at the same time.

Right now, the people who played last year who aren't signed up are:

Kublai Khan
qwints (hasn't read PM)
SensFan (hasn't read PM)
borkjerfkin
mastermind

I think i'll send a follow up PM to see if they're interested as I'd like to start getting draft dates figured out soon.

Also, new players are still welcome!
