Mafia Scum Head-to-Head (Main) Draft League Details

Also known as the "main" league

Draft Time:
Unannounced

Commission and Co-Comissioner

Zoraster is the commissioner. In the event of any absence, Locke Lamora will take over commissioner duties.

Draft Order

Undecided

Draft

This will be a ___ team Snaking draft (i.e. the last person to draft in one round will be the first to draft in the subsequent round). Assuming I remember, I will pause the draft for a 5 minute potty break after the 10th round has finished. The Draft Order will be published around a week before the draft. Trades of draft position may be made, but only of ENTIRE sets of picks, not individual picks (e.g. you can't just trade your 51st pick). Any trade must be made 24 hours before the draft and PMed to the commissioner.

Divisions and Leagues

Undecided

Scheduling

Undecided

Scoring Categories

Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), On-base Percentage (OBP), Total Bases (TB)
Pitchers Stat Categories:
Strikeouts per 9 Innings (K/9)
, Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Quality Starts (QS), Saves + Holds (SV+H), Innings Pitched (IP)

Spoiler: Stats Definitions
Total Bases: The total number of bases a player reaches through hits. A single counts as 1, a double 2, a home run 4. (Slugging % is TB/AB)
On Base Percentage: (Hits+Walks+Hit By Pitch)/(At Bats+Walks+Hit By Pitch+Sacrifice Fly)
Quality Starts: A QS is given when a pitcher pitches at least 6 innings and gives up 3 or fewer runs.
WHIP: (Walks+Hits)/Inning Pitched
Saves+Holds: Saves+is not the winning pitcher, enters in a save position, records at least one out, and leaves the game before the game is over without relinquishing the lead.

Roster

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OFx3, Utilx2, SPx2 RPx2, Px4, BNx6, DL

Weekly Transactions

In any given week, you may make three transactions.

Head to Head One Win

Each week, beginning on Monday, a new game will start between two teams. At the end of the week, the team that has won the most of the scoring categories will get a win.

Minimum Inning Requirement

Your pitchers must pitch at least
30 innings
or you will forfeit all 5 of the pitching categories.

Trade Deadline

The deadline for all trades is August ____th. Any trade agreed to on this day or before this day will go through.

Trade Review

This league is on "commissioner reviews" trades. Trades will be vetoed by the commissioner in the case of suspected collusion, but will not be vetoed on the basis of simple "unfair" trades.

Playoffs

This league uses a X-team playoff system.

Auction Roto Keeper Details

Draft Time:
Unannounced
Appeal to Drop Keeper Deadline:
Unannounced

Commissioner and Co-Commissioner

Zoraster is the commissioner. In the event of any absence, Locke Lamora will take over commissioner duties.

Keeper Setup:

It will be Auction + $5.

We can keep a maximum of
6
players.

Players retained on a team may keep a player for the price they bought him at the auction the year before + $5.
Players acquired off the waiver wire who were NOT drafted may be kept the following year at $5, no matter what the FAAB cost.
Players who were DROPPED by a team and then acquired by another team may be kept at the same price as the original team would have.
Players who were TRADED may be kept at the same rate as the team who traded it to them.

If a player was already kept from the year before, their price will continue to rise $5. So Player X is drafted for $10 in 2014, kept for $15 in 2015, kept for $20 in 2016, etc.

Before the auction next year, I'll ask each team who they want to keep.

Auction Setup:

Everyone will start with
$280
(raised from 260 so that it'll be an average of $10 per roster spot). Nominators will have
30 seconds
to make their nomination so make sure you have your guys queued up. It will be 10 seconds between bids. Yahoo predicts that our auction will take
2 hours and 20 minutes

Rosters:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OFx5, Util, SPx3 RPx2, Px4, BNx6 = 28 players

Corner Infielder means you can play either a 1B or 3B there. Middle Infielder means you can play either a 2B or SS at the position.

Statistics:

Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), On-base Percentage (OBP), Net Stolen Bases (NSB)
Pitchers Stat Categories: Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Quality Starts (QS), Net Saves and Holds (NSVH)

Waiver Wire

This will use FAAB with a budget of $100 with continuous waivers. In other words, there are no free agents, everyone not on a team is on the waiver wire. When you pick someone up, you will be asked to enter a bid. The person who bids the highest that day gets the player the following day.

Players
MAY
include FAAB budget (unlimited) OR up to $10 of the budget for the following year's auction (however, no player may put himself lower than $260 or more than $300 for the following season) in a trade if they both EXPLICITLY agree to it by PMing the commissioner.

You are not limited in the number of transactions you make.

Innings and Game Limits

After your pitchers have pitched a total of 1500 innings, no further pitching statistics will be be counted.
For each position, once that position has played 160 games, no further statistics will be counted for that position (outfield is an aggregate 850 games)

Trade Deadline

The trade deadline is August ____th. This is much earlier than the other league's in order to prevent too much tomfoolery with the keepers.

Trade Review

This league is on "commissioner reviews" trades. Trades will be vetoed by the commissioner in the case of suspected collusion, but will not be vetoed on the basis of simple "unfair" trades.

Off Season Trading

From August ___th to the end the season, trades will be locked and the commissioner will not entertain them. Once the season is over, managers may trade players and they may negotiate with money for the next season's draft up to $20 per trade as long as it does not leave either player with more than $320 or less than $240. You may not trade money for the season after next. These off-season trades are trades of the
right to keep
a player at its keeper price. A manager must still pay to keep the player before the next season.

Following Season Keepers

Managers must choose their keepers at least ____ week(s) (unsettled) before the auction by PMing the commissioner. The commissioner will then announce who is being kept and what the final budgets of each team will be.

Rotisserie Scoring

It's real simple: for each of the 10 categories, everyone is ranked first to last. First place in the category gets 10 points, second 9 points, etc. until last place in the category finishes with 1 point. At the end of the season, whoever has the most points wins (maximum being 100 points, minimum 10).

btw we can take at least two returning teams to add to the auction roto keeper league. One to replace Gorc and one to make 10 teams. If you played last year in the main league, you're eligible to join the keeper league as well. Just let me know if you're interested.

Are there any rule changes we want to make, particularly with the main league? The only one I can think of is something enforcing balance to rosters, particularly requiring real relievers or something. While I'm all for playing to win in any way you can (bar cheating) within the rules, I think the rules can still try to address kind of lame optimal strategies like never starting a reliever.

I'm fine with any format.

Trying to remember...I punted saves/holds last year? I think?

We technically all had to start relievers, but it was odd because there are many players who had SP/RP dual eligibility on Yahoo who were full-time starters (Dallas Keuchel, Carrasco, etc., for example). So I think I always had people in the RP slot, but I had just one save/holds guy on my roster. (late in the season, Drew Storen - early on, Soria and the demoted TB closer).

I punted mostly because it was just one category, and because IP (Innings Pitched) was a category - so I tried to maximize IP every week (along with K and QS) even if it hurt my ERA. Innings Pitched, Strikeouts and Quality Starts made up half of the pitching categories I think (gotta check!). So I tried to make it a battle between my batters vs. the other team's batters. Even 'real' relievers who ate up the most innings - ratio helpers like Betances/Wade Davis - weren't worth owning for my strategy if I wanted to win IP as much as possible along with QS/K.

However, I wasn't there for the draft or the first few weeks of the season, so I felt my relievers wouldn't match up.

My two cents! :D

:)

we didn't have to start relievers. I didn't have relievers by the end. I just rotated my starters in and out.

Oh, my memory must be wrong.

I remember having

SP
SP
RP
RP
P
P
P
P

or something like that (might be wrong about the amount of P's), that I rotated in and out every day. This was my only private league last year.

yeah. those are the positions, but that doesn't mean you actually had to have 2 RP.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I get it now.

So, you're thinking about making it so that everyone has to start someone in an RP slot who has just RP (not dual) eligibility on Yahoo (not both SP and RP like Dallas Keuchel/Wade Davis).

Oops!! I was confused I think, because there were starters who became relievers and gained RP eligibility midseason, and vice versa (Jesse Chavez). Thinking about this is too much, I think the season needs to start now

something like that, yeah. i hate to put too many artificial rules in place, but that one was particularly bad last time.

I had what, three relievers at the end? Four? Could have gotten by with just Rodney to be honest.

All it took was 5 starts or 10 relief appearances to get added to the other. But it's not like I ever had an issue and had to bench pitchers who were starting.

Problem with relievers is that it isn't really optimal to have more than a couple (As I learned about midway through the season) so it's a pretty easy position to ignore beyond having closers. (Is there any benefit outside of racking up saves?)

You could probably require a set amount of reliver innings or something, but I'm still not sure that's going to address that to satisfaction.

Maybe you could add another reliever friendly stat?
