Autumn 1909 orders on map/State of play for retreats

Image

Italy's F Wes may retreat into Lyo or Tys, or disband.
Italy's A Pru may retreat into Sil, or disband.
Austria's A Gre may retreat into Alb or disband.
Austria's A Gal may retreat into Sil or Boh, or disband.

Deadline for retreat orders is 48 hours from this post, or sooner if orders are prompt! Let's try to squeeze out this and the build phase before I go V/LA for Chambermeet, during which time resolution will be slower.

'RESURGENT' GERMANY RETAKES KIEL

By Pamela Noring, Unterhund Correspondent

Having long been thought irrelevant on the grander geopolitical scale, Germany took its first steps back towards becoming a major European power once again this autumn as its exiled military retook the port city of Kiel.

Kaiser Thurhame and his people had been stranded in occupied Denmark since being ousted from the last of their native lands by an Austro-Italian alliance in early 1903, with all signs pointing to a swift end to their empire as it was known.

However, after years of avoiding the worst of the continent's heavy fighting, as well as practical cooperation with fearsome neighbour France, Germany seized its opportunity and could be on the rise again.

Some analysts have suggested that the Kaiser might have been gifted back his territory by France as reward for his friendship but an enthusiastic German press release received by
The Diplomatic Times
is adamant that its military "kicked all sorts of butt to get back in here", urging locals who had all but forgotten what it was to be German that "seriously, we're huge freaking heroes. Now, who do we have to invade to get some schnitzel around here?".

POPE ON THE RUN AS ITALY CRUMBLES

By Reginald Miller, Roman Flammability Correspondent

Catholics everywhere are in spiritual crisis as Pope AcRv was evicted from his seat in the Vatican City by the merciless advance of Austrian invaders, leaving the Italian civilisation close to destruction.

Though the Papacy arranged for a seizure of its former ally's holdings in Tunisia during the autumn, Italy's own shores were neglected as Archduke DeasVail's soldiers ran riot to put to an end once and for all the neighbouring nation's long friendship. The central power also saw its holdings in Berlin overrun as pressure from France and Russia on either side of its patrolling forces proved too much to hold back.

The Italian peninsula is now entirely under Austrian occupation, with the Pope understood to have fled to nearby Trieste, where what remains of his army retains a beachhead in enemy territory.

"This is awful. I don't know what we'll do if they capture the Pope," refugee Carmella Bertoncini told
The Diplomatic Times
. "Do we have to adopt the Austrian religion? What do they even believe in, anyway? Because I can tell you right now that there just isn't enough evidence for the existence of Arnold Schwarzenegger."

If Austria disbanded both its retreats, it would get a build. However, it doesn't have any open factories to build with.

Italy
must
disband a total of two units, whether in this retreat phase or the winter build phase.

Was there a point to that analysis? The Austria comment was interesting until you got to "but they have no factories so this is irrelevant".

Congratulations on taking your first step towards rejoining the major powers, by the way.

All the hats eggs will be belong to Switzerland.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Italy disbands F Wes and A Pru.
Austria retreats A Gre - Alb and A Gal - Sil.

State of play, Winter 1909

Image

It's time for adjustments!

France
controls 14 supply centres and has 12 units, so
may build 2 units
.
Germany
controls 2 supply centres and has 1 unit, but cannot build as no home centre is unoccupied.
Italy
controls 2 supply centres and has 2 units, so makes no adjustment.
Russia
controls 11 supply centres and has 10 units, so
may build 1 unit
.
Austria
controls 5 supply centres and has 6 units, so
must disband 1 unit
.

Deadline for build orders is 48 hours from this post. If all orders are in early, I may resolve slightly ahead of this deadline if it ends up being more convenient before I head to Orlando.

I don't need a cathedral to host my parties! I'm happy with a beachfront party down in Tunis!

And you're NOT invited!

Vonflare and Nexus can rock up if they so desire.

Nobody else though.

Once this game is done, you should host a 34/36 player variant. :P I guarantee there isn't anything much more fun than this.

I did see the one where every territory was its own nation.

I prefer the look of the Crowded variant, 11 players, all unclaimed centres in an area become a new power (Ruhr gets turned into a centre for the power starting there). Similar degree of chaoticness, but more manageable numbers.

The classic crowded variant is fun too and my favorite one when I'm not looking for a potentially long game.
