Rummy(JDGA's turn)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Apr 20, 2015 8:06 am

Post by MonkeyMan576 »

Rules:

-Game Setup: Each player is dealt 7 cards to start the game. A round ends when a single player runs out of cards AND is able to discard. At the beginning of the game, one card is turned from the deck face up(discard pile) Players role one die to see who goes first, after that play goes clockwise.

-Scoring Points: At any time, players may play 3 of a kind(3 of the same card), 4 of a kind(4 of the same card) or a run(3 cards that are consecutive, like 4-5-6, of the same suit). Aces can be high or low. When played as a set, numbered cards 2-9 are worth 5 points, face cards 10-K are worth 10 points, and Aces are worth 15 points.

Starting Your Turn: At the beginning of their turn, a player may either draw a card face down from the deck, draw the first card on the discard pile, or pick up a group of cards from the discard pile. If a group of cards is picked up, ALL cards in between the first and last card picked must be taken, AND the card furthest away from the top of the discard must be played as a set. Then the player must play a card into the discard pile. As players draw cards from the deck, the discard pile will get increasingly bigger.

Rummy: If a player has a 4th card of a 3 of a kind, or can add to a run, any player may play a card on their side of the table to do this(a rummy). Then any other player, or the same player, can add to that run(so if a run is 7-8-9, the same OR different player may play a 10, then the same OR different player may play a J, etc.) Strategy note: Since a player has 7 cards to start, often a rummy or a 4 of a kind is needed to play all 7 cards. If someone plays a card on the discard pile that could have been played as a "rummy", another player may say "rummy", automatically take the card(doesn't count as a draw), and play it on their side for points.

End of Game: If a player runs out of cards, but isn't able to discard, then each other player gets one more turn, and then on their next turn a player may draw a card and then discard that card to end the game.

Final Scoring: When play is over, each player adds up the points of cards on the table, and subtracts any points from cards still in their hand. These points are added to the players total. The match consists of the first to an agreed upon amount, usually 500 or 1000 points.

Forum Specific Rules: There will be a 24 hour time limit to play or you skip your turn. Official moves must be placed in bold.

Total Points: Upon Signup, please state how many points you would prefer to play to. Majority will decide.

I'm game, sure.

A couple of questons about house rules:

1) If you draw only one from the discard pile, must you play it?
2) I'm assuming any player can call rummy on a discard that is a valid play, yeah?
3) Can the Ace go backwards and forwards (e.g. run of 2, A, K) or must it be used A, 2, 3 or Q, K, A?

1) No. There is only a play requirement when you draw multiple cards.
2) Rummies are played on played sets, not on discards.
3) Aces can be high or low, but runs end on the ace. So, A23 is okay, QKA is okay, but KA2 is not okay.

Ah, okay, see in my house if someone discarded a playable card (e.g. if someone had 2, 3, 4 of hearts of the table and the discard was a 5 of hearts), the first one to slap it and call rummy got to take it, play it and get the points for it.

Is there any extra points in the game? I thought there are some... maybe not.

Game begins! One card is drawn face up to start.

Also, by vote, would you prefer to post card images or just the text(i.e. 3D for 3 diamonds)?
Also, remember the 24 hour time limit(although faster play is encouraged), and bold official moves.

Also, if no new cards are needed, it's okay to continue play without my say.

Whatever is easier for the mod.

I will be posting in text though... if that disqualifies me then you can replace me, lol.
