Aim Of The Game

[A01] The aim of the game is to win more than 270 electoral votes in the general election.
[A02] To get there, you must win a majority of delegates in your party primary, or otherwise be voted the nominee of that party by the delegates to the convention.
[A03] Two people will win the nominations of the major parties. If players choose to run as third-parties, they may also win nominations of a party. All those players nominated will then compete for the victory.

Character Creation

[B01] To play, you must create a character. Character creation is below: you should submit that, privately, to the mod.
[B02] In each phase of character creation, you will be given a number of points to spend on attributes, allowing you to adjust how your candidate will do. It is impossible to fully max everything out: you have to balance your priorities.
[B03] Additionally, you will be given a shared pool of points, which you can spend in any phase
in addition
to the points you are given for each phase. Spending costs differ: refer to the phase for details.
[B04] You begin with
thirty
points in your shared pool.

Spoiler: Character Creation
Personal DetailsWhat it says on the tin. Most of this doesn't matter--some, like what state you hail from, might. Feel free to do as little or as much as you want;
italicized items are required.

You must spend
one
point from your shared pool in this section to select Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, or New Hampshire as your home state.

Name:
Sex:
Colour (it would be useful if you provided several colours you want to be associated with, in case we get more than one person claiming them):
Image (preferably something squarish):

Description:
Slogan:
More Info if you really want to:
Home State:

Personal AttributesThese attributes affect how you as a candidate will perform in the race for the White House. High numbers mean that you excel in that particular field, and the consequent activities that are bracketed beside it. Low numbers mean you suck.

You have
eighteen points
to spend in this area. Each attribute begins at a value of 1, and has a maximum of 5. Primary attribute values are used only during the primary. Every additional point over eighteen you spend here will cost
two points
from your shared pool.

Leadership (barnstorming, policy speeches, fundraising, command points)
Experience (barnstorming, spinning, gaffes, backfires)
Integrity (barnstorming, opposition research against you, spinning scandals)
Issue Familiarity (DURING THE PRIMARIES) (barnstorming, interviews, debates, gaffes)
Issue Familiarity (DURING THE GENERAL)
Charisma (barnstorming, debates, ads, fundraising, speeches, interviews)
Stamina (energy points)
Debating (DURING THE PRIMARIES) (barnstorming, debates, interviews)
Debating (DURING THE GENERAL)
Ideologue (how likely it is you'll stay in even if you can't win)
Ambition (how likely it is you'll join if you're not in already [so like whatever])

Campaign AttributesThese attributes affect how you and your team build a successful campaign. High numbers mean that you will have no trouble in those particular attributes, and will reap the bracketed rewards to greater and greater effect. Low numbers mean you blow.

You have
thirty points
to spend in this area. Each attribute begins at a value of 1, and has a maximum of 5. Primary attribute values are used only during the primary. Whilst strong primary attributes may help you during the primary, keep in mind that you have to win an actual election after that. All attributes have a general and primary number, except where noted. Every additional point over thirty you spend here will cost
two points
from your shared pool.

The only exception is Corruption. Corruption begins at 5 and ends at 1: high numbers means you are more corrupt and prone to scandals, and low numbers mean you are less corrupt and less prone.

Command (command points, ability to increase org strength)
Strategic (decreased time to target states)
Ads (decreased time to create ads, higher chance of ad success)
Spin (increased spin)
Fundraising (increased fundraising)
Research (decreased time to research scandals/insights)
Polling (decreased time to poll, decreased error of margin)
Ground (decreased time to create footsoldiers)
Corruption (GENERAL ONLY) (increased ability to have scandals researched against)

IssuesThese issues are your positions on particular topics of political note. They have a huge bearing on the game, since that's obviously what politics is mostly about.

For each of the following issues, you should indicate where your candidate falls on the following scale: far-left, left, centre-left, centre, centre-right, right, and far-right. If you wish to align with a specific party platform, you may also do so. If you wish to know the parties' platforms without committing to them (for flanking purposes, perhaps), you can find the position of each party at the bottom of this post.

Abortion

SurrogatesSurrogates will campaign on your behalf. You may name your surrogates for no charge, and they will barnstorm, spin, and fundraise for you. Their barnstorming, spin, and fundraising power all begin at one; it will cost you
seven points
to raise any power by one. You have
one
surrogate free of charge--any additional surrogate will cost
ten points
.

Money and Super PACsYou will begin the game with
ten million dollars
. You may spend
three points
from the shared pool to raise this number by
two and a half million dollars
. You may do this an unlimited amount of times.

You will also begin the game with a Super PAC. Your Super PAC will raise money for your election, but cannot coordinate with your campaign. Each Super PAC will have a strength of 1 in the primaries and in the general. You have
one
point in this section to raise either of those strengths; every additional raise will cost
three points
from the shared pool.

Party AffiliationYou must submit a party affiliation with your character. The available parties are: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, or Green. You may also submit as 'Undeclared': doing so will mean that you get to see what everyone else declares as before you submit your party affiliation. However, you will
not
be able to change your platform or any attributes at this stage, so it is recommended you only stay undeclared if you could comfortably run in at least two party primaries.

Party Declaration

[C01] If, after creation is complete, you have not yet declared a party, you will be required to do so. All party affiliations and characters will be revealed.

Relationships

[D01]
If
you have any points left over in your shared pool, you may spend them to improve relationships with a particular player. Relationships all start at "normal" and scale from very bad to bad to normal to good to very good--you may move one spot for one player for
two points
, or for the rest of your points, whichever is the lesser.

and then we rolllllllllllllllllllll hell yeah

yeah cool sign up pm me characters

note to all potential submitters: the character creation thing probably won't change from this point onward, the main things i've added are a) please submit multiple colours because we're probably gonna get double ups; b) now there's a description of ambition and look its not really relevant but who knows it might affect other things; and VERY IMPORTANTLY c)
it will cost you 1 point to make your home state a battleground state as defined by 270towin, or any of the first four primary contest states as defined by the democrats and gop

I don't know if I was ever going to do this but now that you beat me to it I don't have to be unsure anymore.

You've probably already thought of having yourself play as an independent so that you can see the general but in case you haven't, you should probably do that.

Would it be a waste of effort to include the little blurbs about each issue/position combination?

When you say I have eighteen/thirty points, I'm assuming that means my total in that area must sum to eighteen/thirty, and I am obligated to put at least 1 in everything, yes?

i'll try type them up today but it's like 7 positions * 15 to 20 issues or something so it'll take a while and its not really game-relevant (although, definitely, it helps if you wanna like match to your irl position or something)

True enough.

I liked that I was able to conclude how left or right my existing positions are on an at least allegedly fair spectrum, that was fun :P

As a European I'd probably have to fill in Left or Far-Left on all issues if I actually went with my own opinions :P

Edit: Btw, does the 1 point you start with in all attributes count towards your point limit?
