BattleCON game 1 - Cybele (Karin) vs. Zorblag (Alexian)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue May 03, 2016 12:47 pm

Post by Zorblag »

BattleCON is a board game version of a video fighting game (like Streetfighter.) The system currently has 3 games (Devastation, Fate and War) with a total of 58 characters to choose between as well as many promo characters. This will be a pbf experiment in playing the system here at Mafiascum.

If you're interested in playing a game, asking questions, or talking about the system, I'll encourage you to check out this thread in the arcade.

When Cybele is ready we'll choose characters from Devastation of Indines and start a match here!

Okay, I believe I'm ready. I do have a question before we begin: how are we resolving any simultaneous secret decisions, such as choosing an attack each round? Oh, also are we playing with Finishers or Special moves? I've only read up to and familiarized myself with the Novice section.
As for my fighter choice, I'd like to try either Karin & Jager, or Shektur.

Welcome Cybele!

The first game I played was with Karin and Jager and I found them to be lots of fun (my opponent didn't believe me that Jager just wanted to give him huggles for some reason.) Go with either of those that you'd like!

For the finishers I'm fine just anteing them this first game and adding the special action card later. Basically, you choose which side you want to use before the match starts and then you can ante it anytime you're at 7 health or below. When you do it ends the ante right there (though if you play Shektur, for example, you'd be able to ante other tokens and what not first if you wanted to.) If you'd rather play with the special action card, and the potential for cancel or pulse we could do it, but my thought is to keep it simpler for the first game. In theory there's even a third option, the force gauge, which was introduced after devastation, but for now I think that just going with anted finishers is a good way to start.

For the simultaneous secret decisions I was planning to use spoiler tags. We just have to trust the other player not to look at them until the ante phase is done, and I like to think that that's not too much trust to ask. Here is a game that illustrates what I have in mind.

I'll let you choose which starting positions we use. In devastation the characters start in spots 2 and 6 (i.e. - X - - - X -.) That's been changed since then as the designers decided that the openings were a bit more dynamic with a 3, 5 start i.e. (- - X - X - -.) I'm happy with either of the two, though I slightly prefer the new method just as that's what I'd expect to play in the few live games I get to.

I've played Marmelee and Karin from the first flight, so I'll pick one of the other three (Alexian, Eligor or Pendros) for this game. When you've decided for sure which character you want to use you can post it here and check in my spoiler to see my choice! After that we can choose our bases and styles to go into discards one and two and then get going.

Spoiler: Fighter
Alexian

okay, I'm happy with the spoiler option. The 3&5 start position suits me fine, and I'd prefer to go with ante finishers, since that seems simplest for a first game.

For my fighter..... hm I think that since I've already seen a little of Shek through the rukes explanation, I'll go with
Karin &Jager
. Let the wild hunt commence! (selecting discards and finisher soon).

Last turn for the night is good for me as well.

If you're anteing the chivalry token then that's all the ante that can happen so we do reveal, yup.

Looks like you win priority. Do you retreat 1 or 2 spaces?

Coordinated is going to give me trouble. If you didn't have it there's no way I would have bursted there. I retreat 2.

For your attach we're at range 5 so you miss.

I then move forward 2 and hit for 6 (4 + 2 for advancing 2 spaces,) stunning you (though that doesn't matter.)

You get to move Jager 1 space.

Does that all look right to you?

End of beat affects happen regardless of stuns. It's after activating that would matter.

Actually, first round mulligans and all, if you want to retreat 2 instead of 1 you can avoid getting hurt by my attack. I'm fine with that if you want to switch it up.

Beyond that I'll see you tomorrow!

Right your UA. I forgot about that movement for Jager. You do get to move him again if you're not stunned.

Silly Troll.

Like I said, if you want to retreat 2 you're welcome to, and then you can move Jager up to 2 spaces if you like.

Since you don't have any tokens there's no ante this beat.

Looks like you've got priority again (in fact there was no attack pair you could have chosen that would lose or clash to mine you speedy, speedy wolf!)

Do you want to advance 1 or 2 spaces? And mostly I want to wait till tomorrow to finish this beat.

I'm forced to advance 1 for my start of beat, so I do.

Do you want to advance 1 or 2 spaces for your before activating, and how do you want to use your on hit abilities (you get to choose the order they activate in)?
