Holy Matchups, Hikaru! It's another game of BattleCON! The Desert Paladin, Vanaah vs. the Successor of St.Kelbran, Eligor! Paladin vs. Templar! Who's Zealous Fury is going to win the day? The Gods of Indines might know, but we'll have to watch to find out!

If you're interested in learning about or playing a game yourself at some point I'll point you to the BattleCON discussion thread in the Arcade. For now, thanks to KingdomAces for stepping up to be the next scummer to whale on a Troll in the pbf fighting series!

We'll be playing with Dodge and the Force Gauge.

Questions
1: Does Vengeful nullify Judgement's effects?
2: If Glorious/Vengeance fail due to priority, do Glorious/Drive/Scythe still trigger their Before Activating effects?
3: If I hit with Reaping when you're out of Tokens, do you gain one less token, or do I get my Rush back?
4: Does Retribution change the answer to 3?

My guess would be no/yes/the latter/no, but I don't want to make any faulty assumptions. Everything else seems like it shouldn't cause any problems.

Incredibly obvious, but I'll still risk the Counter Drive for the otherwise inescapable 7 damage. I might just run past if you would end up hitting back for a lot though.

1. I'd agree no. Vengeful stops movement from being applied to me, but judgment is restricting my own movement.
2. Yes, just like the old dash had the before activating even though it could hit, unless you're stunned the before and after activating effects will go of regardless of whether you hit.
3. The check for reaping should just be the tokens that I have when you hit me. If I didn't have any before you hit then you would just get your rush back (as I don't gain tokens till on damage, which you seem to know.)
4. Retribution doesn't kick in until the damage portion either, so the answer should be the same.

Basically just like you thought for all of them.

My vengeance tokens are as safe from you as your divine rush one is from me.

OK, so it looks like you've got ante and a decision to make.

I've got soak 2 and stun guard 6 so you won't be stunning me.

I would take 5 damage if you hit (giving me my 5 vengeance tokens back,) which would mean that I'd be hitting for 10 (5 from aegis, 1 from the style on it's own and both +2 bonuses.)

If you advance to the corner you miss and I "only" hit for 6, but don't get my tokens back.

This opening wouldn't have been possible for me before the force gauge and I'm not sure how I'd defend against it. I was actually counting on you not using Glorious Strike and anteing +1 power as that did get through all my stun guard and soak.

In any case, this matchup should feature some heavy hitting beats and we're not starting out disappointing.

So, I think my options are to deal 5 and take 10, or to deal 0 and take 6. Advance 1, advance 0.

This will be a quick game.


One PEdit and an hour of being pulled away later...
Me being afraid of you having tokens is going to get me nowhere fast. Maybe I could manipulate it somehow, but I'm assuming that I'll rarely get a chance to stun you anyway, so I'm not going to pass up damage because of that. I was going to Strike, but I didn't because... I thought you would Burst? Either way, I definitely would have spent the extra power had I gone for the strike there. I didn't realize Aegis alone was 8 stun protection until after you had already anted the stun guard from force, if I had then I might have used Strike anyway.

(Note: By quick I mean beat wise, not time wise. I'm still probably going to only want to take one turn at a time mostly.)

Yeah, not exactly like previous matches. Though this is the first time we've played two characters who essentially want to do the same thing. Just get in up close and bash the hell out of their opponent.

Obvious move part 3! Also, Judgement's effect seems completely useless, because if you would prevent someone from switching sides with you, then instead they're at range 1. Where it misses. Maybe preventing a retreat would help, like if you Burst here I can still switch sides with you, but it does not act as Lance/Valiant. On that note, after Hikaru every character I've played has had some way of preventing side switches. I don't think that was on purpose?
