okay but here's the deal with roll to dodge

any modifiers that are like +2 or more make things worse off because you start overshooting more than you actually do things that are vaguely useful

as such RTD is usually not suited for a super serious complex game because obviously in real life being the world's greatest lockpicker doesn't make you pick the lock so hard your fingernails fall out

so are there mechanics in place that incentivise not being bad at things

You're welcome to hop into the current game, Mathdino. You too, GIF.
You may discuss characters with one another.

K. Right now I'm runnig a 4 person game, but I can do up to 6. We've just finished the world creation phase, and we've moved into character creation, where you determine your HoC and Motivations and skills and stuff. Once that's donem we'll start the actual play phase. This tthread is mostly just for signups; I'm going to start a seprate thread for the game after we get that far.

I'm definitely going to get my stuff in tomorrow morning. I'm going with a pilot. I will probably also take that travel magic.

I have a little bit in pilot, but I'm mostly invested in Nano and an Archeologist-type character.

I'm just trying to learn as much as possible about our traditional culture and build a peaceful, prosperous society. Many wars wouldn't exist if there wouldn't be those earthlings influencing us :P

Character is in. I've already forgotten the last name I gave him but, he's a pilot

I took both planetary and meld by the way. I figure in this world pilots would meld with their ship sometimes

Duck fam!!

Nice work with this, very cool system. I'd be keen to try it out when I've got some time (next weekend maybe? or later)

Okay, there has been a bit of confusion that I need to clear up for those roles that have been sent out:
ROLL TYPE =/= SKILL

The skill points I provide allow you to gain skills, which add bonuses to roll types. So Iconeum, your Heal roll type is not related to your Firearms roll type.

If you want to think about it in another way, skill points add levels to a roll type, and some roll types require you to have levels in that roll type to use, like Heal or Archeology. Does that make sense?

HoC is short for the Heart of Character, or what that player's overall goals are. It's sort of like an overarching Motivation that defines your characters main goals or desires in the campaign. They are usually pretty broad; i.e. "Help others" or "Advance Science."

See, now I'm not sure if I did mine right.

I think Ico is the only one who has to add to his character sheet extensively. For everyone else, you ought to be good. backstory or a bit of extra character development would be cool, but that is something that for sure we can do while we play.

I have considerably adjusted/updated my character sheet. If this is still not what is expected, then I need help.
I added flavour and story to it, and spent the skill points in a way that I saw fit.

Just let me know what needs to be corrected/adjusted if any.

Are you a D&D lover too Ico?

I am, but my group never gets into character development. When we play it's short campaings where we 'draw' premade character cards and just play for a few hours.

Ahhh that's interesting! I dig character development, but have played heaps of NPCs as well. I have a habit of swaying towards the bizarre tho (as you may have noticed already! )

My D&D games end up with fleshed out backgrounds. Here's the thing, though, do I need to post my background for Tommy G? (That's my character, I believe)

You can if you want, but it's not required. I'll have the game thread up in a few hours. TW would you like to /in to play or mod?

I think we're going to do a 4/3 actually. So I'll either create a new game for GIF, Math, and TW, or I'll find another person to mod.
OR we can do a 7-person game
I don't care either way, it really depends on you guys.
