Betrayal at House on the Hill: Widow's Walk

A game by Bruce Glassco
Presented by Xalxe

Overview
We are all explorers of a haunted house. At some point during the game, the haunt begins, and one player will turn on the rest of us. The game has 100 different scenarios. Neither the heroes nor the traitors will know how to win until the haunt starts and they read their separate secret scenario rules. Until the haunt begins, explore the house and try to find items that will help you survive.

Game Rules

A brief overview of basic turn mechanics is below. This will get you started, but I recommend reading the rulebook for further details if you're not familiar with the game.

On your turn, you may do as many of the following in any order:

Move
  • According to the “Speed” trait of your explorer
  • Movement ends if you enter a room that forces you to draw a card
Discover a new room
  • Add new rooms as logically as possible, but false features (e.g. a door leading to a wall) may occur
  • You may not seal off a floor (i.e. place a tile so that no other rooms can be added)
Use item and omen cards

Once during your turn an explorer may do each of the following:
  1. Trade an item
  2. Drop any number of items
  3. Pick up one or more items from an item pile
  • For each item, you can only perform one of these actions per turn: use, trade, drop, steal, pick up.
  • Weapons can only be used when making an attack, not when defending. You may carry more than one weapon, but can only use one for an attack.
Attempt a die roll

Make an attack
(only after the haunt begins)
  • Once during your turn, you may attack an opponent in the same room
  • Both player roll dice equal to their Might Trait
  • The player with the lower number takes the difference in physical damage
  • The haunt may allow you to make a haunt-specific action in addition to the attack
See page 13 of rulebook for more rules and Special Attack

Widow's WalkI have added the Widow's Walk expansion to the module and we will be using it for this game. Here are the new additions to the game.
  • New Cards
: New Omens, Items, Events and Rooms are added, which function the same as the others in their decks.
  • New Floor
: The Roof has been added to the game. The Roof Landing may be accessed as normal from the Upper Landing, and any cards that can go on the Upper Floor can also be placed in the Roof.
  • Dumbwaiter
: Some new rooms have a Dumbwaiter icon. If you are in a room with a Dumbwaiter, on your turn you can spend one additional movement to move to a landing directly above or below the floor you are currently on. For most rooms, this means two movement, but if there was a monster in the room with you hindering your movement, it would take three movement to use a Dumbwaiter. For the ground floor, all three Landing tiles (Entrance Hall, Lobby, Grand Staircase) count as the landing and you can move to any one of them with a Dumbwaiter.
  • Explorer Tokens
: Each Explorer has six Explorer Tokens. When a stat-boosting room is used, such as the Library, a token is left in that room as a reminder that you have already used it. They may also become relevant during Haunts.
  • New Haunts
: 50 new haunts are added to the game, triggered by new Omens and/or new Rooms. They function the same as traditional Haunts. Mostly.

Wheaton's Law

Don't be a dick.

Forum-Specific Rules
  • Players should remain active enough to respond to posts within 24 hours. If you are going to be absent for an extended period, you may pass your action to another player or user.
  • Players may not, under any circumstances, look up the Traitor's Tome or Survival Guide to gain information they wouldn't have if we were sitting around a table.
  • I am playing with additional haunts added to the list, so we may end up rolling a haunt that you haven't seen before. Do not panic.
  • If there is a roll to be made as the result of a drawn card, I will make it unless the player has a chance to affect it. If you attack a player, you may roll their defense if they have no cards they can use to affect the result. For all rolls we will roll [d3-#of dice rolled]. For example, to make a haunt roll you would roll 6d3-6. Static rolls MUST be rerolled.
  • Players may not privately communicate, with one exception: after the haunt is revealed, all heroes will be given 48 hours to discuss a plan in a Private Topic without the Traitor. If there is no public traitor, this phase will be skipped.
  • To direct your moves, use North/South/East/West to avoid confusion, where North is straight up on the images I post.

Player SelectionOur six players are
Charles510, xofelf, animorpherv1, McMenno, VashtaNeurotic and Cheery Dog
, with turns happening in that order. You all have 24 hours to claim a character. First come, first served. Only one player may select each color. If you only choose a color I will randomize your character choice.
  • Green
    : Brandon Jaspers/Peter Akimoto
  • Red
    : Darrin "Flash" Williams/Ox Bellows
  • White
    : Father Rhinehardt/Professor Longfellow

  • Purple
    : Heather Granville/Jenny LeClerc
  • Gold
    : Missy Dubourde/Zoe Ingstrom

  • Blue
    : Madame Zostra/Vivian Lopez
  • Additionally, because we are playing with the new Widow's Walk expansion, there is a rule option to ensure we get a new haunt. Essentially, when you get an Omen card, if you're in a new room you draw the top card, but if you're in an old room, you draw the top new Omen card. Please cast a vote as to whether you would like to play with
    New Haunts Only
    or
    All Haunts
. In the event of a tie, All Haunts will win.
