In post 232, Porochaz wrote:Yeah not fixing the gas was a no brainer. Although I regretted it come bomb making time.
I definitely saw the gas as more of a liability than an asset, which is why I stopped it up in the first place. I clogged it with a mop-head thinking that people would go crazy when no matter how hard they tried they couldn't solve the "valve puzzle."
When Duck suggested we try to fix it, poro and I had a conversation where we both agreed that it was still a bad idea. Looks like we were right :D

Yeah, well, the hardware store.... It was going to be just an oridinary hardware store, and as I developed everything.... I kinda forgot to change its name to its new purpose....

I took a laser out of a camera in the end, and I stole a bit of glass both from the Tesla wing mirror and from the mirror in the eatery.

Lol to be fair I watched you block it in the first place!
Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.

Which is why I figured I might as well explain it.

Oh also, Harry + Jia... the deposit box didn't have $1000, it had $5000 :D I didn't have any story reason for lying, I just figured money must be important for *something*

Yeah, the $500 lie detectors for sale in the phonestore that had a.. mysterious fire.

Jia being an android which was why Casey couldn't use it on her. She wasn't human and no one questioned it.

Which reminds me: The lie detector

Porochaz was a sociopath. Had he been lie detected, it would have returned a reading of true whatever he said.

Also, if youd put 500 dollars int the slot, it was off :). Red herring

You are a
Private Investigator
(or at least you were, until society collapsed). You have turned your skills to finding out what happened to society. You've heard that there are some unusual things at the mall that might explain the crazy events of 2021.

You are 47, Male, South African - Tall, skinny, dressed in a suit and tie.

Inventory

You are carrying:

Suitcase
In the suitcase - you have a card key for the Carpark Exit
A pistol with a single bullet
A piece of paper with 1904 written on it.

Base Strength

Your base strength is SEVEN. This means if you attack a player, you will roll a 7 sided dice to determine if you win or not.
If you are carrying additional weapons, these may increase your strength.

Win Conditions

1. Find Evidence of what caused the Apocalypse
2. Find and help other good players to the win. (Optional, but very, very recommended)
3. Survive

I still torched the walkie talkies and the metal detector in the store. Not that it mattered - Ariel had already seen the box of gold bars in the bathroom drain from the underground tunnel and was busy blowing a hole in the women's bathroom to get them while I was lighting the shop on fire with Yvonne.

What/Where was the Ghost Carla needed to find?

I asked about that. It was the 'Phantom' graffiti in the bathroom.

I felt like a protagonist because of my backstory. I think I was a bit below par in terms of creativity/observantness/shrewdness for the players. I ended up in the right places with the right people at the right times somehow. We had some great villains, so that was fun. I completely missed the Phantom stuff in the bathroom, though it stopped being relevant to me once I got the gold. Loved the me/Talitha/Casey alliance. Though I'm sad he couldn't win with us, Casey still helped us in the end :] Watching everything play out in the office really showed me how little I knew of what was actually going on.

I nominated ambic for a Mashie.

I have always been an amb fan, but now I’m a super fan.

The planning and creativity and flexibility in this setup was hella boss. This was a lot of fun. It was a great sandbox and I absolutely loved it and hope (and cannot wait) for a spiritual sequel.

Nice work everyone but especially the good guys.

I can't believe there wasn't a role of pyromaniac who has to light one fire everyturn and each fire has to be bigger than the previous and the win con is finally burning down the whole mall.

Here are some of the random theories I was trying to push at some point, by the way

1. We are all the professor from alternate timelines with reconstructive surgery
2. this is an alien simulation (RDs theory), (secret the zombie virus is a computer virus, groza is literally a matrix style Agent )
3. We are clones, implanted with memories for some sick game
4. there are other people here around us, possibly invisible
5. this has not the first time this has happened, some things we are seeing are from previous iterations of this game (the I have no mouth and I must scream theory)
6. AL exists and the reason we haven't found them is because they haven't turned our chips on yet, some of us are infected
7. One of us is a secret alien (I was setting up tali for this)
8. Jia's win condition is a joke and she will become a serial killer

I think it's really interesting that despite me being a massive lurker in mafia games, that never happened in this. I think the roleplaying aspect and charm kept me engaged.

You'd still have to have fought me with no weapons and as Harry found out. It doesn't matter how strong your character is if you roll a 1 during combat.

I could've been but i was legitimately trying to help any and every one, good or bad. Just for something to do.

Nobody really took me up on it though.

There was. There was a character whose name was an anagram of Ray Bradbury, whose character was cut because of balance issues. The bookstore existed for them.

From my InkDive game (The predecessor to this)
Barry Baudry (Beardy?)
M Book Burner. Find and Destroy the Earth Book. Can destroy other books under some circumstances - TBD

(My original planned game was called InkDive, where people travel inside Books and interact with fictional worlds. I abandoned it as too complex to achieve - and moved to Rata Mall instead. Barry originally came with it, and the bookstore was to be a locked area that opened up later - along with a library on the next floors)

(Added a bit more detail to that)

Inkdive was an interesting world where, as people found books, they could be added to the 'Machine' to open up new worlds. It would be this game on steroids.

Everyone starts in a much smaller Eatery, and the walls are lined with shelves. Any book on the shelves is a world that can be visited in the next phase by having it places on a central machine. If a book is destroyed, or added, it changes what can be done. Unfortunately each of the worlds were like a Rata Mall, and it would be too hard to control and people (and by people, I mean me) would be overwhelmed by it :D

So it was Myst.

I can't believe there wasn't a role of hydromaniac who has to start one flood every turn and each flood has to be bigger than the previous and the win con is finally submerging the whole mall.

Other culled characters

Callie Lysooth - Hypnotist
Lisa Columbine - Prototype for Cindy Rose
Rachel Hartley - Paranormal Expert
Maureen Holder - Prototype for Yvonne (Holder as a surname for the pickpocket. Jeezaloot I was being mean)
Cherry de Saint - Trying to acquire a MAGIC WAND- starts with mild wand -one shot - Can turn players to a 0 strength toad (Temporary) MILD WAND
Couldnt figure out what to do with her :D
Sir Warren Talltoed ---- Cant remember what he was for
Harry Taunt -- Escapologist - later became Harry Carrouthers

I've never really played Myst. I got bored with it as a teenager very quickly, and went back to Monkey Island in a flash.
