One is broken. It looks like someone (or something) escaped. The glass is smashed. Based on the water on the floor it wasnt long ago. The foot prints lead straight to the laundry chute. They must have used it to escape.

One vat contains a male. He is being fed through a tube, hovering in the water. The other 2 vats contains an identical looking woman ( 1 each ) .

All seem unconcious.

examine the time machine

The time machine isn't functional. It looks unfinished, like someone was trying to invent a machine but hadn't quite worked out what to do yet. It has a laser at one end, that seems to point at a big ring at the other end, and no control panels. You only know it's a time machine because it says so in big handwritten letters on the side. But it could a giant letter opener for all you know. It has no power

and the drain on the ground

The teleporter system is running, but it seems to be missing a part. Perhaps someone in the mall, or a book could explain more.
