I played several games during the marathons and I don't really think I need a newbie game to get acquainted with mafia. Is there a way I can /out and if so how would I go about doing that?

You never HAVE to play a Newbie Game - however be aware that the pace will be very different from the Marathon Games you played. As long as you're sure you're comfortable with two-to-three-week Days, welcome and join in wherever you like.

Actually, I have a question also. How do the marathon games count towards requirements for modding? Or do they not count towards those requirements?

Marathon games are completely outside the modding requirements. Anyone can mod them, nobody gets credit.
