Search?

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:28 am

Recently, none of the forum search features seem to be working for me. I try searching for a member, no names come up, even though the member exists. I try searching a thread, no results come up.

Who are you looking for?
Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.

Anyone. Searches don't work. I just tried searching several words from your post, and it shows no results. This is getting annoying for Mafia games, where you're trying to find a certain post fast.

It works for me. Both functions do.
Seriously. Read your role PM before playing.
I am sorry if you have to prod me, I have absolutely no concept of time.

My prefered pronoun set is "cie/cir/cirs[elf]" but they is more than acceptable.

Place + in front of a word which must be found and - in front of a word which must not be found. Put a list of words separated by | into brackets if only one of the words must be found. Use * as a wildcard for partial matches.

It's working fine for me. Are you sure that you're spelling the member name correctly?

Are you getting an error screen, or is it returning no results?

Tried adding +m, but still nothing.

Kublai, I already said that it is saying there are no results. And I also said that this happens when I search for anything. It's not just members. I tried searching for words here, too, but nothing.

Do whole words, BabyBlue, it works fine.

Type in "+forum" into the search box for this thread. It works fine.

As for members, you have to type in the whole member name and correctly in order to get a result.

It doesn't. I've been using whole words. "Forum" worked, but that's it. I've tried perfectly normal words, of all sizes.

The only thing I can think of is that the words you are searching for might not be unique enough. Words like "who" "are" "you" "looking" "for" may be used so often in the forum that the system refuses to show any results because there are too many. Even when you are only searching a single thread, this problem might persist if the system first searches the entire site for the word, and then throws away all results that aren't from this thread.

If that theory is correct, then a word like "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" is bound to give a result.

Then why would a word like "forum" show up?

And if I'm just searching this thread, that shouldn't be a problem.

Because the word "forum" isn't often used in mafia games, I guess the number of results would be large, but relatively limited.

It would be a problem if the way the site searches this thread is by searching for the word on the entire site, and then filtering the results from this thread.

Do you get this response when you search for something like "+m"?:
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: +m .
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 4 characters and must not contain more than 84 characters excluding wildcards.

So, when you search for something, you see the following message:
No suitable matches were found.

Is that correct?

If so, please describe exactly what you put into the search page.
