Have you all considered a text-based game with simple mathematical formulas and/or use of random rollers to provide the core backbone of the game?

Isn't that what FATE is, basically? The problem is just that there are several available variations of the mechanics and people want to use different things, or come up with new things.

Any single person could finish the mechanics within a day, then others would immanently be all over it telling that person how to make it better.

you know what? this should be just simple dnd format with some twist to allow pvp not only in combat but in checks.

ms is full of smart peeps im sure we can figure a way to not make the story revolve around the mechanics but the player.
A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

Anything we actually have is quite coherent imo, although I was involved in the discussion about most of is so I'm biased. Just the parts that haven't been worked out are confusing. (mostly magic and combat)

Sounds cool, played a forum based RPG years ago but have never done so since. Tis awesome.

Right now we're pretty much stuck on the magic 'schools', if you want a chance to play you could try to suggest some things there. (no guarantees that anyone will actually pick it up as this is somewhat dead)

I'd like to play as a "Mage" whom uses his "staff" as a "weapon".

Eh, I love RPing and I just happened to notice this part of the site, and I wanted to know, where exactly do I start? Is there a signup thread or character creation thread? If so please point me in the right direction.

Or smart enough... I can't handle running this alone and only really signed up to be a flavor writer.

Rules discussion, combined with the fact that there is no clear lead (most people think it's DN, but he is not a part of those). Also, most of the active people are either purely mechanics or purely flavour, no one is good at both, therefore we're stuck on thinking of magic schools (we have the mechanics).

Also low activity.

If you want to help, post in one of the topics (at least) I'll respond.

Since I'm bumping it a bit, a suggestion from someone who is helping start one of these on another site: 4 players and a DM tops, for starters. There's too much to do otherwise. Also, one of my friends suggested using the CORTEX system, which is actually fairly simplistic (also only 54 pages in the rule book, compared to the over 300 in my D&D book).

I am just finishing up a mafia D&D game (it was a BITCH to mod) and I can say that even 8 people was far too many. I suggest that if you do a large game, keep a quick topic of about 3-4 mods who know what will happen, so that a GM can be responding at any point during the day. In an online RPG, the whole idea is to keep it moving, and there's only so much to discuss on one area.

I can help a bit with ideas. I was working on an Excel spreadsheet idea for the combat grid system (Making the sheet a 1 in by 1 in grid, fill colors and simple text), which actually was really simplistic and fairly quick to make. Also almost an international program that can at least be viewed as a jpeg for those who don't have it. The issue here is I don't see the upload ability that is available on the other site.

The idea was to have multiple DMs who are each responsible for ~4 players at a time.

FATE is pretty simple too, the problem isn't with the system but with the people here. Like I said earlier in this thread, I (or anyone else) could finish all the mechanics work in one day if I wanted to (if you assume lack of disapproval = approval the only thing left to do is inserting the basic combat system).
Thing is, at first that wold have led to massive discussion on whether something else might be better (see gold discussion) and now it leads to no one being interested enough to give any form of criticism (see my last posts on magic discussion).

Since your idea is about combat (the only mechanics thing we really have nothing definitive on) it might be a good idea to post a bit more detailed explanation in the combat thread (
Armor system
E: just noticed we actually have a separate combat thread), keep in mind that it does have to be compatible with the FATE skill/aspect system.

FATE is pretty darn simple but since we were modifying it to fit our needs it took a little longer to get set up. I still would love to see this move along but I am convinced that all I can do is "help" moderate. We intended to have several people to maintain that constant GM feel so that all questions and requests could be answered ASAP.

Define 'little'

I'm considering actually trying to see whether I can actually do what I said and finish everything this weekend... Who needs democracy anyway?

Disclaimer: 'Everything' in this case does not include flavour

Flavor wont be needed :)

If I can have a mechanics system to work with, I can set up a vast majority of the quests and establish flavor for Amstaad. I have already pretty much written a whole backstory for this.

Rules are done. Thanks to DeathNote copy/pasting what was already there was already half the work :)

Everything relevant should be there. I removed any references to flavour, the rules for how it is applied are all there though.

If you're missing anything you can post about it in this thread, the rules thread is locked. If you don't agree with a rule you've had almost a year to propose whatever you wanted (you can still comment on it, but the time of democracy is over).

Flavour writers, go do your thing. If you want to write flavour post here or contact DeathNote. This account is only used to post, it isn't checked regularly.
