Cannot upload avatar

I'm having some trouble uploading new avatars (actually two ones that I've used before, which makes it odder) from my PC.

Upon attempting to load my first-choice new avatar, a PNG that I have used here before... shown here ... I get this response. The file's not empty; I can open it just fine on my computer.

Then, when trying to upload a different one as a second choice, another PNG that I have used before, this happens.

Any ideas?

fwiw, I'm getting this also.

I thought it was connected to the same error (got the 500 error both times) I got when I was trying to test out a post of almost 1,200 words for formatting.

500 internal server error is cropping up all over the place. Probably somebody needs to kick the server.

Maybe transfer the image to imgur and then upload it in the 'Upload from a URL' box? Idk, but I changed my avatar late night yesterday and it worked fine.

It's going to 500-out at random times during the day depending on server load and astrological symbol. If it doesn't work, try again in 30-60 minutes.

I'm still not getting it to work.

I'm getting an error message now about file size, but I have two version, one that's ~16 KB, and another that's ~2.5KB. the latter should be easily accepted by any standard I can think of.

I've tried uploading an avatar on my Shaft account and it takes me to a 500 internal error page. I've tried several pictures, and I've even tried linking from tinypic. Nothing works (and yes, everything meets the file size requirements).

On this account, I click submit and it brings me back to the Edit Avatar page, saying "

The uploaded avatar file is empty.

" I've tried to upload at least 4 different pics, even deleting my previous avy to see if that changed things..... "

edit: I'm using/used Firefox and IE

Kise, I merged your post with the other topic about this.

Long story short, wait 30-60 minutes and try again. Server load is sketchy right now.

What I have found is:

-If your image is even close to the limit, it won't upload.
-If you try to upload it from your computer, it won't upload.

Temporary solution:

-Make sure it's WELL below the specified 31KiB file size.
-Upload your desired avatar image to http://www.imgur.com
-Use the "upload from a URL" option to upload your avatar.

Posting to confim that this is still happening after the other server misconfig was fixed.

PhpBB.com thinks "host has either disabled the getimagesize() function or most likely disabled the allow_url_fopen option in the php.ini. "
