I've seen this sporadically before but never been able to reproduce it. Today it was consistent the first three times I tried.

http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... 2#p6483582 - essentially I hit [quote] on post #7, then hit [Submit] on that screen. Page jumps IMMEDIATELY to the thread, with no interstitial 'Your post has been made' business and no new post. It's as if submit goes Back. Today it did it three times. Usually it will post the second time I attempt it.

I don't even know where to start with debugging this. It happens maybe one time in 500. Platform-independent I think, doesn't matter if there is new content or just the quoted text. I *think* it only does it when I start from the quote button, but can't remember for sure.

I've literally never seen that. It must be some bizarre bug enabled by your browsing habits when compared to my own. I'll need to think about this one more.

I believe this has also happened to me, though I often don't notice when it occurs until later, so I'm never quite sure if it's actually happened or if I just didn't push submit or what.

Yeah. For a while I didn't even notice it, because the thread comes back, and I just moved on not realizing I *never actually posted*.

This happens to me quite a lot actually and sometimes happens multiple time on same posts.
Pressing back and submitting again helps though.

Can you explain your typical process cause I've literally never had it happen.

Edit: not saying you guys are doing something wrong, but I'm not using things the way you are so it will be hard for me to find.

This happened to me today after this post. I typed a response to saul and pushed submit. I didn't realize it hadn't posted until now (the initial attempt at the post was 6-7 hours ago).

I noticed something interesting with that thread earlier, don't know if it's of any use. I read Saul's post earlier. Then it got the little "there are unread posts" button again and I clicked but saw no new (visible) posts.
eta: My point here, if I didn't actually get to it, is that I suspect your invisible post was what caused the thread to show new posts. So I'd think on some level it went through.

I've already worked out in this instance that it was a case of a mistake. PF posted his post originally elsewhere. QUadz responded to it there saying it was the wrong spot. PF then reposted it still in the wrong spot. Confusing quadz. (and probably me too had I not remembered reading quadz's reply)

That would be a good story if it hadn't done this for the last year or more. Maybe it's just saying I should have stopped posting sooner, did you ever think about THAT?

This happens to me all the time, but ONLY from my old phone (opera on droid). It didn't matter if I was posting from a quote or just making a direct reply. The moment I hit submit, it would go back to the thread, oftentimes the first page of the thread, and my post wouldn't be there. I would just refresh the page and try again.

I'm using chrome on iOS 8 now and it hasn't happened at all. Never happened on the computer though. At least not for me.

Just noticed this thread. I have had this happen to me occasionally. I use Chrome now but I've had it happen on Firefox just as much.

This happens to me on my phone occasionally, only when I quote posts.

A temporary solution which I've found always guarantees my quote will go through (hasn't happened since I started doing it) is to click/tap the text box at least once as if you're about to edit its content.

Actually, this is a feature of phpBB. There is a built in requirement that you wait two seconds between loading a page and submitting a post. Attempting to do so sooner will result in you being sent back to the View Topic page.

Go ahead and give it a try. Hit quote then submit in under two seconds. Your post will not go through.

This is to prevent someone from writing a bot and destroying your site by slamming your forum with posts.

I saw that in the code but I didn't think it could reasonably account for so many instances. Again, literally never happened to me.

no way that's only 2 second feature as that crap happened on my phone, after writing long ass posts. which is slow on phone and way more than 2 seconds.

You test it like this, no idea how someone could get to another page and stuff in 2 seconds, but this needs a testing via multiple devices.

I apparently need to choose a different thread, I hit the ninja screen on my phone.

Show a specific example of you experiencing this issue where you are certain you spent more than two seconds on the page, and it can be looked into. Date, time, thread, etc.

In Flay's case, it was definitely the 2 second limit:

Hitting the "quote" button:

xx.xxx.xxx.xx - - [25/Dec/2014:11:52:09 -0500] "GET /posting.php?mode=multi&f=86&m[]=6483465 HTTP/1.1" 200

Hitting the "submit" button, 1 second later. 302 response code, as expected:

xx.xxx.xxx.xx - - [25/Dec/2014:11:52:10 -0500] "POST /posting.php?mode=multi&f=86&t=60235&p=6483465 HTTP/1.1"
302

Sent back to View Topic as expected:

xx.xxx.xxx.xx - - [25/Dec/2014:11:52:10 -0500] "GET /viewtopic.php?f=86&p=6483465 HTTP/1.1" 200
