Extremely long loading times

For the last few days, when I was on Mafiascum, pages would load at an extremely slow pace, often loading for minutes. I don't have this problem on any other website, so I don't think my connection is to blame; there was also no problem a week ago when I started my first game.
Do you have any idea about what's happening, and if so, is there anything I can do to have the pages load faster?

Change skin from mafBlack.

I'm not using mafBlack and I just encountered the slow loading.

We're showing 73 users online...

Windows just did some updating, could the host site be updating too?

Oh, and the other day I got a "1 new messages" notification 3 minutes before the new message made it into the inbox.

Oh, by the way, I should have mentionned that earlier: sometimes, when I have the slow loading problem, pages will stop loading before they actually are fully loaded, which can lead to blank pages, CSS-less pages, or pages only showing the beginning.

I'm no expert in such things but perhaps a high traffic?

Maybe that's it - any idea on what I should do to have the pages load quicker? I feel like the avatars load slowly when this happens, should I turn them off when I log in at this time of the day?
