All site mails being greatly delayed, then arrive in clumps

So hi,

I generally subscribe to certain topics and also am set to get e-mail notifications whenever someone PMs me. For the last month or so, these notifications haven't been coming out immediately, but instead every so often a whole batch of them comes all at once. For example, my phone just spent the last hour beeping every few seconds advising me of every PM I got on the site for the last two weeks. I suspect this may already be a known issue but a quick search didn't turn it up so I thought I'd report it just in case.

Like half of the top topics on this page are about it. I know, I don't have time to fix it. No one else has stepped up to bat.

I would be happy to look into the issue at the phpbb site and find out how to fix it and if it requires a code modification, I'll be happy to do that as well and give it to whomever.

It's almost certainly an issue with the mail server on the server. Not a matter of our phpbb setup. That means direct server access with high permissions. I have no idea who mith is comfortable with having such permissions.
