I like subscribing to a topic because I can hit subscriptions and view a concise list of all topics I am paying attention to.

However this feature is paired with getting email alerts when a subbed topic is posted in.

I only want to be emailed about PMs.

I can't find the button for this does anyone know?

Use bookmarks instead of subs. It's the same minus the notification. Alternatively, use your egosearch.
