General Rules:

10. Don’t work against your win condition.
11. Don’t use provable randomness. Saying “I rolled a dice and it landed on 2” is acceptable; posting a screenshot of you using random.org, or using dice tags, is not acceptable.
12. Use your common sense; I try to include as much as I can but this is probably not an exhaustive list of all things you are not allowed to do.
13. I reserve the right to change any of these rules or any of the time, or make any judgement irregardless of what these rules say (although I will try to follow what I have said here as closely as possible.)
14. The spirit of these rules is what counts, not the exact wording. If you find a loophole in these rules, don't be surprised when I modkill you anyway. Ask me if you would like clarity on any of these, or think something might fall in a grey area.

Voting, Lynching, and Deadlines:

15. You can vote for a player to get them lynched. Voting for no lynch will be considered invalid, for the purposes of this game.
16. Votes must use the bold tags or the vote tags, like this: VOTE: teh worts or this:

17. A lynch requires a majority (over 50%) vote. For example, when there are 9 players alive, it will take 5 votes to lynch, because that is the smallest number over 50% of the number of players.
18. Deadlines are 10 days for day one, then 7 days for each following day. nights will last 48 hours. I may extend this if I deem it appropriate. When the deadline expires, the day will end with the majority wagon being lynched. In the event of there being competing majority wagons, the one which reached its majority first will be lynched.
19. When a lynch is reached or deadline expires, I will lock the thread and start the Night phase as soon as I can. You are allowed to post before I do this, if you want.
20. All approved private topics included in any role PMs may be used for discussion at any time. That means that the mafia, along with any other hypothetical roles using private topics, may be used during both day phases and night phases.

Prodding and Activity:

21. If a player fails to post for 36 consecutive hours, they will be prodded. If that player does not post for another 24 hours after they've been prodded, they'll be replaced.
22. If you are going away, or if you have limited access to the site, notify me by pm or in-topic so that I know not to prod or replace you. The maximum amount of time you may go without posting due to V/LA is 72 hours (3 days). Exceptions may be made: please notify me if you will be gone entirely for more than three days.

NEW LEAD IN HIGH-PROFILE MURDER!

New details have been emerging about the mysterious murder of Gideon "MagikHorse"
Allencourt, the curator of the National Art Gallery, last week. We at the Scummers' Daily
Tribune were fortunate enough to have an exclusive interview with the lead investigator
on the case last night and are honoured to bring the latest news to the people of
Scumington.
Mr. Allencourt passed last Tuesday, the 20^th of Scumtober, after an unexpected medic-
-al complication. According to trusted sources, MagikHorse was rushed to the George
Scumington University Hospital in the early hours of the morning. The hospital ER staff
were alarmed to discover that his usual equid-esque features were rapidly malforming
into those of a goose. Before doctors could begin to guess the origin of this condition,
MagikHorse had died.
In an interview last night, Lead Investigator Sadie "Skygazer" Duskmane of the
Scumington Police Force was able to confirm that police "expect fowl play". It is speculated
that Mr. Allencourt's condition may have been brought on by some kind of poison: likely
from the uncharted sub-equatorial hellscape of Australia, or someplace similarly nefarious.
Lead Investigator Skygazer was also able to confirm that although reported early
leads did not produce fruitful results, the Police Force are working a new angle. The people
of Scumington have been assured not to worry: these wrongdoers will be brought to justice
before any more harm can be done to our great city.
It really is true what they say, folks. Chief Inspector Skygazer is so called because she'll
gaze as high as the stratosphere to find her culprit. When the going gets tough, they bring in
the best of the best - and Skygazer is nothing short of that.

Skygazer, lead investigator on the MagikHorse murder, carefully flicked through the dossiers her assistant had prepared for her. Pika "the worst" Chu, the new duck on the block.

He didn't do so bad,

Skygazer thought,

Given his brain is the size of an apricot.

They didn't let a whole lot of ducks into the Force. Especially ones who'd had their names given to them by sadistic bystanders. But what he lacked in most things, he made up for in enthusiasm - Skygazer could feel she was starting to warm up to him.

"Come on, where are you..." She muttered, audibly but not quite enough that a passer-by could hear. Sky's eyes were flicking from the dossier across the hotel lobby. She'd parked herself on a sofa chair in a lobby hotel - the same hotel where her new suspects would be meeting at any minute.

Though she had already read the dossiers back-to-back, the Chief Inspector knew that preparation was key to pulling off this investigation. In her long career, Sky had never failed to catch her culprit. But the lead she was pursuing was a delicate tightrope. One misstep, and this could plummet quickly.

Gideon Allencourt hadn't just been murdered: her lab reports strongly suggested he was poisoned. Mr. Allencourt had led a pretty careful life. He'd lived for his job as a gallery curator. The Force's first & only lead was that someone at the gallery must've had beef with their boss: but it couldn't have been further from the truth. MagikHorse had been well-liked and well-respected, and there wasn't a soul at the gallery without a solid alibi. Much the same could be said for his modest private life. The junior inspectors couldn't find a reason anyone would want him gone.

But that's where Skygazer came in. By carefully analysing Gideon's movements over the last fortnight, she'd uncovered that he had been engaged to set up an extremely exclusive art auction for a small group of private connoisseurs. These nine collectors were the only people who hadn't been looked into: nine extremely wealthy art collectors from around the globe. This was a sensitive task. But she'd never been one to shy away from that.

The eight dossiers in her lap outlined these buyers: their names, their pseudonyms, their histories, everything she needed to know to pose as a gallery employee acting in Mr. Allencourt's place. She glanced across the names one more time:

She hadn't caught his attention. Swiftly stashing of the dossiers, she withdrew a notepad & pen, making notes for her eventual encroachment.

Over the next few minutes, the eclectic cast of art collectors slowly came together. The last to appear was a well-dressed (and allegedly imaginary) humanoid tiger, who she recognised as GuiltyLion.

Skygazer left the comfort of the sofa chair. She was once again about to enter the dark, cold world of undercover police work. This was going to be a long, difficult interrogation, she could feel it. But this is what she did best.

A distant relation of the famous Paxtons of Scummercia, Wallace's family operate the Paxton Europe hotels. Being the sixth child of Rowena Paxton, the current CEO of Paxton Europe, Wallace does not have ambitions of entering the hospitality industry; he is well known for his relaxed demeanor. In a sort of 'prodigal son' story, Wallace cashed in his inheritance back in 2003 to invest in the sturgeon farming game. Rumours suggest that he has remained partially estranged from the European Paxtons to this day.

DrDolittle's talents were discovered a short way into his schooling life. Being able to effortlessly communicate with all animals is the kind of talent people write movies about--having a real world case of it was considered almost unbelievable.

Back in 2019, MagikHorse became the youngest head curator the National Art Gallery of Scummerica had ever seen. You'd think that kind of responsibility would take its toll after a while, but this horse handled it formidably.

. In an effort to generate enough income to satisfy her many talents, Sky took up a job as a street cop. But her expertise was never in the field; Sky's investigative prowess caused her to climb the ranks faster than any investigator before her.

As for the gallery? Nobody knows. Some folks say it's in the basement of her apartment building; others (including Sky herself) insist it was just a flight of fancy, and nothing ever came of it.
If Sky is behind this, having her as lead investigator on the case will surely cause her to slip up. If she's innocent, as she insists, then she'll catch her culprit. She always does.

Skygazer finished her note-taking, taking one final cautionary glance around the room she had been provided in order to "look after her visitors' needs".

She had retrieved the dossiers from their stash downstairs, and was preparing herself to compare Junior Detective Pika "the worst" Chu's notes against her own before something struck her.

Carelessly tossing half of her dossiers across the room, Skygazer took the pages dedicated to Sir Valentine Ryder, aka. ceejayvinoya. The great magician.

For a month before the murder happened, Sir Ryder had been backpacking in Antarctica. He had several dozen witnesses who placed him there performing acts of unquestionable ceejayvinoya brand magic.

Wasting no time, Sky briskly walked to the complementary telephone by the desk. Dialling her secret investigator assistance line, she held the receiver snugly to her mouth.

"It's the duck," the receiver answered. "What's quacking?"

"Seven slices of your finest rye." Sky whispered, her eyes darting from side to side.

"Very good, Ms. Duskmane. How can I help?" the worst replied.

Our new suspect was an eleventh-hour addition to the private auction held by MagikHorse. I can't find anything in my records even indicating he was involved, but insider Intel is worth its weight in gold I guess. Covington's commercial success as a scientist is somewhat unparalleled; but his career has been nothing short of spectacular.
After studying extremely rare species of axolotls in New Caledonia, Elements discovered these cute little guys excrete a nearly-untracable but entirely unique element which he later named Axolotite. Elements went on to recreate the known periodic table to incorporate this element.

The lobby doors flung open, a flustered woman in heavy disguise bursting through them.

Skygazer lifted her badge, effortlessly flashing it to the hotel staff who had leaped up. Apparently equally baffled, they turned to each other, shrugged, and resumed their post.

Across the lobby almost as soon as she had entered it, Sky rapidly pressed the "call elevator button", muttering under her breath anxiously.

"It was him. It's him. It must be him." she mused to herself.

Ding!

The elevator.

The whole way up to the 13th floor, Sky went through the lab notes in her head. Head Scientist Micc was a fellow night owl; as soon as he'd finished his tests on the poison used on MagikHorse he'd lit up her phone.

The poison was from the rare Australian goosesnake - the same animal one of our culprits had just been researching. What's more? There was no way of forcefully extracting the venom. This extremely wily snake had to be coaxed into giving it of its own free-will.

Only one suspect had the unique access to the Australian goosesnake and the unique ability to coax it out.

"DrDolittle!" Skygazer called, rapping on the suspect's door.

No reply.

"DrDolittle, we need to speak to you right away." Sky improvised. "It's hotel management."

No reply.

Stopping for a moment to collect her thoughts, Sky noticed something.

A tiny object was jammed in the bottom of the door. For all appearances of being shut, the door was just ajar. Drawing her firearm, Sky thrust the door open.

"Honk... honk."

A weak voice greeted her. Sky placed her weapon back into its holster.

The form of DrDolittle lay before her, with some unsightly modifications. White feathers sprouted from his body, and the face she had looked upon just earlier today was no more. It had been replaced by a long hideous beak and two big, black, beady eyes.

As Sky tried to process what she was looking at, the goosified prodigal vet known as DrDolittle breathed his final honk.

The following morning, the lobby of Hotel Paxton was in quite a ruckus. Skygazer arrived around the 8am mark, somewhat weary from her late night visit to DrDolittle. After finding the doctor's goosified corpse, realistically clearing him of any involvement in the MagikHorse murder, Sky had returned to her apartment, obsessing over case notes, completely unable to sleep. She had left the body in its room, calling the emergency number under the guise of hotel staff. She'd fix the paperwork later. Her cover was too deep to risk blowing.

It didn't seem that the doctor's death was the cause for the morning's chaos, though. There were concerned whispers amongst the staff for sure, but they sounded closer to speculative and concerned. Not shocked and appalled.

Keeping a careful eye out for anyone approaching, Sky approached a stressed-looking concierge, sitting alone in the corner of the room.

"I heard the news," Sky lied, as smoothly as possible. "How are you holding up?"

The concierge swallowed, looking up at her with wide eyes.

"I just... I don't know what to think. Mr. Paxton never takes ill, and when he does he normally just worked through it. Rachel says that when she tried to talk to him this morning he... made a honking noise? Doesn't that sound like that art gallery guy's death from the paper?" the concierge burst out, scarcely stopping to breathe.

"Mr. Paxton--you mean GuiltyLion?" Sky replied, too shocked to keep up appearances.

"Of course," the concierge replied. "What rumour had you heard?"

Sky excused herself, too thrown by the news to continue the conversation.
