Why is it called a marathon instead of a sprint when it's so much shorter than regular games?

The word "marathon" actually traces its origins to the legend of Pheidippides, a solider who after the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC is said to have ran the entire 42.195 kilometres back to Athens only to claim vt and get turbowaggoned three minutes in.

people of mafiascum, the time is near!

last marathon weekend we let the evil overlord Datisi seize the Speedrunner Crown.

to the general populace, his reign has been a time of peace and prosperity.
our harvests have been plentiful.
our newbies have grown smart and strong.

but beneath that splendid exterior, our king has been running an evil spy network.

just last week three scummers were arrested under false accusations of treason.
and to make matters worse? his lackeys have kidnapped and imprisoned my bread.

i say:

NO MORE!

no longer will we let this evil king rule us with an iron fist!

jokes aside, i'd be keen to get a group of cool people together to smash out some marathons in this event.
so like, i'm sure that lots of awesome games will be run over the weekend. but bear with me here.
but given the length of the event, sometimes it's hard to bring together crowds for minis and stuff.
so i'm thinking if people are cool with setting some time aside, we can have a party!

but especially 12noon edt, on saturday the 5th of september!
i guess if people want to rock up sometime after this, we'll try and keep games running for a few hours at least?
