Imposter Alts

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:55 am

I've been seeing more of this getting through lately with account registration more automated, so I want to emphasize the following site policy (which really hasn't ever been clearly stated):

Alt account names which are sufficiently similar to existing accounts controlled by a different user will be deactivated as soon as I am made aware of them, unless I have given prior approval.
Some of these are harmless jokes, but unfortunately there have also been cases of using such accounts to insult or impersonate the existing user, and with the latter it is easy to imagine a mod of some game sending role information to the wrong account.

As usually, what gets through will be at my discretion - I'm sure there are some accounts that have escaped my attention and become established in their own right, and I'm sure there are some accounts that I've nuked unfairly. If you are uncertain whether or not your brilliant alt idea falls under this rule, just ask first.

How about this alt? It's obviously named after someone, but not in a way that I think would ever be confused with the actual player.

The Neruz/Nurez thing was an experiment I was looking into for a topic I'm studying next year. I meant no harm with it, I was going to get rid of it after 2 days anyway.

so Haylen.

FTFY.

One of these days Haylen will learn that making fake accounts and impersonating will only end in drama. :?

It didn't end in drama though. I didn't insult, cheat or do anything against the rules with it - didn't know that it was against the rules in the first place plus Neruz knew it was me anyway. And as soon as I heard Flay was getting pissed off about it I stopped posting on that account. No harm done.

To be entirely fair, Nurez and Nuzer were quite impressive as far as ersatz users go. The level of detail in the replica signatures was fascinating--they were accurate right down to the background font color and everything.
