Announcing Site Chat Mods
Site Chat is a different beast than most of the rest of the site: it exists in a real time environment with very little "going back" in time. We've had a few instances of spam and abuse in Site Chat that have gone unacted upon simply because we didn't have a moderator presence at the time.
Because of that, we're introducing and taking applications for Site Chat Moderators. We're looking for roughly 3-5 responsible users who already use site chat quite a bit. Unlike other staff positions, what time you tend to be online chatting is highly relevant.
Site Chat Mods are overseen by and report to the Discussion Mods. Site Chat Mods will be empowered to give out warnings and short term bans (~48 hours) to users that need to be stopped in the moment (rather than retroactively), but the primary responsibility is to monitor the site chat. As such, for a user who already chats or lurks a lot, the responsibilities of a Site Chat Mod will not be onerous.
