Site Downtime (July 2016)

Hello,

As you probably know, the site became unavailable around noon EDT yesterday. From what I understand, the datacenter hosting our server experienced extreme networking issues. The server did not come back online until about an hour ago, after which we had to repair some damaged database tables. We should have no data loss.

Unfortunately, we're relatively powerless when issues like this occur. As this is the second time in the past few months we have had extended downtime, I'll be talking to Mith to discuss moving to a hosting solution where we have more control over our machinery.

Some random additional information:

1. Apparently the issue was with a malfunctioning UPS at the datacenter.
2. They have recommended moving us to their primary datacenter (which would entail a hardware upgrade and faster responses for downtime) at no cost, though it would require a small downtime during the move of course. Whether we do that will of course depend on whether we decide to stay with them long term.
3. They have credited us a month's payment, so our timetable for moving (if we do) may be dictated by taking full advantage of that.
4. I will absolutely entertain legitimate offers to purchase the site. I'm not going to promise to never ever sell it, because I have a family to provide for and debts to pay. Just don't sue me first, or I'll have to add to the asking price.
5. I can't speak for the whole staff (and I believe they are currently discussing his case to determine whether any further action should be taken), but I have never received any direct offer from shotty offering to purchase the site, help with hosting, or otherwise be a useful contributor. I have, however, received a couple of borderline stalkerish PMs from him, in addition to his threat of a lawsuit. So, that's fun.
