Usually random lynching guarantees a pretty good win rate for town, making the game a los less analytical than its vanilla variants. This is due to the fact that catching one mafia goon means gameover for them. Evidently this makes the game not fun to play, as there is no point playing a game that is decided by a dice roll.
It is also difficult to scale a lovers setup without breaking its core principles. It is rare for there to be more than 4 mafia lovers without high risks for the game to be imbalanced for either side.
Other setups involving lovers have tried to add twists to the traditional variants, such as pairing mafia with town as a lover pair. This particular setup 9p lovers setup stays true to the usual variant, while also aims to make the game interesting to play for both sides by including 2 loners in the roster
By design, lynching 2 VTs results in a loss for town. This is due to the fact that, in the resulting 4vs3 with 2 pairs of town lovers, the game is broken by a mass-claim and then lynching the loner. Any other combinations of lynches ends in a mafia win organically, as mafia wins ties in nightless setups, eg. one VT and one pair of lovers remaining.
Mafia can approach the game in a couple ways as town can only afford to have one mislynch. One strategy is to divide its members into a pair and a loner, then proceed to fakeclaim as a town lover pair and a VT. This strategy effectively separates the players into two lynch pools. Three pairs of lovers and three VTs.
One other strategy is for mafia to all fakeclaim as VTs. This leaves the town lovers claim unchallenged, effectively clearing them. Lynch pool is thus reduced to VT claims only. In this strategy mafia aims to outplay both VTs. Although viable, definitely not an optimal way to win as mafia.
