It's not, no. I miss the concept of training something up. Here you just constantly find better stuff in the wild, training anything doesn't make sense Maybe at later levels it will but not for the first 20 for sure.

Yeah man. Collect like 50 of the things, pop an egg and XP heaven. I've been saving up other evolves too, especially those that net me a new pokey man in my pokey dex. Best time to do one of those is when you're sitting at a lure somewhere so you can also get double XP from all the spawns. /nerd

The combination of blatant cheaters, lack of tracking, and sudden weirdly increased difficulty is putting a serious damper on people's enthusiasm for the game.

So my app keeps popping up a "GPS Signal not found" error whenever I change menus or try to tap things or just randomly. The game is unresponsive for a couple seconds and then the error goes away and everything is fine again. Has this happened to anyone else?

Is it?
I was dragged on a 5-hour pokeman expedition Saturday. We went to the Texas City Dike which is like a 5-mile long 2-lane road that juts out into the Gulf. Ran dry of Pokeballs catching a zillion water pokemans it was gr8.

Spent most of this weekend out and about doing the pokemons. Discord was big for organizing raids. My phone kept melting down in the heat and the app fell apart but I did manage to snag an Articuno so I'm happy.

Articuno (Team Mystic) released on Saturday, July 22 and available through Monday, July 31.
Moltres (Team Valor) to be released on Monday, July 31 and available through Monday, August 7.
Zapdos (Team Instinct) to be released on Monday, August 7 and available through Monday, August 14.
What's not clear is if raid spawn rates for the others will remain the same and what's happening with Lugia.

They've already extended it once tho (by 3 days!) Given the insane number of things I've hatched and XP I've gained I think that's been super generous.

Depending on where you live - you'll have a big crowd of people. Shortly before the group will probably split by team color. They'll use private groups to organize. Everyone will want to start right after it hatches so don't be late. Sometimes people will want to do a "2nd run" because they have multiple accounts but don't bet on it. Raid itself and catch afterwards play out exactly like any other raid.
This has been my experience anyway. I've done 5 of them.

That's exactly what it is yeah. Raids pop up randomly at gyms. You have to use a "raid pass" to do them. You can get a free raid pass every day by spinning the photo disc on top of a gym. Raids have tier levels to give you a rough idea of how difficult they are. Tier 1 raids can be solo'd by almost anyone, while Tier 4 will need a small group to win. Variables such as trainer levels and weather help determine just how many people are needed. If you win the battle before the timer runs out you get a chance to catch whatever you were fighting. The number of catch attempts will depend on which team owns the gym, which team did the most damage, your own personal amount of damage done, and if you have friends with you.
There are a lot of infographics like this one out there that get updated and published on a regular basis to let you know what's soloable.

I have a bunch of corsola, they're like rats, and heracross cuz they spawn in Corpus Christi. And I also have all these Tauros that I'd love to ship overseas if only we could do remote trading somehow. :/

Curved throws make a huge difference in catch rate! Behold A CHART:
So let's say you don't have the Psychic medal yet in any form. Your straight, Excellent, goldened throw had a catch rate of about 21%. The equivalent curve would have given you a catch rate of about 33%!
(This chart is specifically for Mewtwo. Other legendaries have much lower base catch rates)

There are certain gyms that are tagged as "EX eligible". There's a really technical explanation involving "s2 cells" which is some kind of mapping thing (you can read all about how EX gyms are determined here) but bottom line is that only certain gyms get secretly tagged as EX.
EX raids are triggered when enough people do a regular raid at an EX gym. I believe what triggers an EX raid is if raid participation spikes well over average but I'm not clear on that. The passes are distributed among players who did raids at that gym (during the prior week I think?) but not every player will get one.

The Silph Road is probably the largest and most organized Go community out there. Have a look at their discord list and see if there's something nearby.

The game is built around teams and cooperation. The biggest rewards come from playing in groups.
I am personally part of:
- The main Houston Silph Road Discord, which has 9200 members
- The main Sugar Land Discord (general suburb where I live), which has about 1000 members
- The Kitty Hollow Raiders Line group, dedicated to the park nearest where I live, which has 75 members

In our area, servers organize meetups (particularly around Community Day), EX raids, legendary raids (v important with the demise of scanners) and trading yeah.
For example, here's what they're talking about on the Houston one right now:
