Here are the coordinates that I have:
Claus (caranha): -60, -330
Implosion/Stefunny: -200, 200 (cave of death)
Socio: 222, -55 (Store)
Joth: -23, 5
MME: 770, -145
Tanstalas: 180, -350
JmJ: 25, -46
Im currently building a road from my town to Tans´ tower, and after that will connect this road to MME´s road - the western continent will soon be all connected!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Sounds good, but is it possible to make it closer to the spawn point? (or we can just have a line going to spawn from there). Once we decide on the train station, I'll try to build a subway track from my town to there.KaleiÐoscøpe wrote:So, I was thinking about where to build the train station. This is a work in progress. The file is huge (800k), and not everyone in the bookmarks is in yet. Anyone knows how to make it interactive-y using java script and/or google maps API? (so that you can make parts of the overlay appear/disappear)? If anyone wants to try their hand at improving the map, the edit file with layers and stuff is below:

It is done!
The road from my settlement (-60,-330) to MME's (770,-145), passing by Tans' tower, Socio's shop, and Supermouse's island is complete! Feel free to wander and see the beautiful sights, or if you don't have the time, check the screenshots below:

So, I have started my next big project: Subways! I'm going to connect one line to Kscope's Spawn train station (-109,122), one to Esurio's Forest (-500,-500), and I want to connect one to MME's villa too (what coords should I connect to, MME?). That will take a lot of iron Screenshots to come when I finish the subway station in my city.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Kscope -- absolutely! Making those long train lines will take much more iron than I currently have in hand. Once I start diggin the tunnels, I'll put the coords here so you can help dig/lay down the lines. Also, you could make a renewal of your central station in Spawn Island, so it can be better seen from a distance.
Untrod -- What are the coordinates? Depending on them, it may be easier to connect to Kscope's station or mine.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

YAY! I have finished the Claus-Kscope subway tunnel! It connects to a few natural caves on the way, so be sure to check out. Now I need to connect those using rails - Iron donations (any quantities!) are greatly appreciated!
Donations can be left at the box in either Kscope´s train station, or my own.Last edited by Claus on Thu Feb 17, 2011 7:40 am, edited 1 time in total.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

So, the Kscope-Claustown subway is COMPLETE! Hop on a cart on either direction, push the button, and off you go in your merry way! No more need for dangerous, tiring tracks at night. The subway even ignores world holes - the cart just zip past through it.
If a cart is not at the terminus station, please put one there (with about 3 carts in each station chest, this shouldnt be a problem)
If the trigger gets stuck, just push the trigger cart again in the top until it aligns with the drophole (you´ll know when you see it).
I´ll make a break for mining/building, then make a similar train to MME´s town.
BTW, if you want to build a small house in my city - be welcome to! Even if it is not your main home, just so we can populate it. - just dont build near the shore/hills that can be seen from my place - I have some plans for those.
---
Oh, BIG thanks to Socio, who donated most of the Iron used for the subway (12 blocks!). More iron donations are always welcome.Last edited by Claus on Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:21 pm, edited 1 time in total.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

After finishing the tunnel, I walked over to MME´s continent - there is a great bridge in that road, and some nice views. Supermouse´snew houseold house I didn´t know about was nice too. I really recommend folks explore that path.
However, in the middle of the forest before getting to MMEs city there is a tunnel full of torches in strange patterns, and stairs leading nowhere. That is kinda creepy - who built that?Last edited by Claus on Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

So, the Claus-spawn subway is off-line for improvements.
Turns out that the world holes, hateful things as they may be, gave the carts enough boost to go through the entire line - without world holes, the carts won´t have enough energy to get to the end of the track. I´m trying to find out the best way to place boosters to make the line work even without holes, but I got sick of it and will finish it tomorrow.
Yay!
EDIT: Subway back online. It works if you pass through a world hole, I'm not sure it works reliably without them. If anyone experiences not being able to go all the way in the minecart, let me know and I will add some more boosters.
Kscope, you want me to autoboost the track between your igloo and the train station next? it is a pretty short track, so it should work without any problems.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

So, I have set up door-based boosters on both ends of the spawn - undiscovered paradise line. The booster on the undiscovered paradise side is not resetting properly, so you may need to reset it manually, I will fix that next time I log in. Also, I had to mangle the spawn station a bit to make space for the door booster - However, now I know how to make the reseting process a bit more reliable.
Cheers!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Minecraft Beta 1.3
* Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
* Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
* Added three new half-size blocks
* Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
* Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
* New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
* It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
* Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
* Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
* .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Well, the average number of people in our server is 2-3. I can see it being used if two people are alone on the server and using it together, or if all three people online want to get rid of the night at the same time, but yeah, it won't get used most of the time.UltimaAvalon wrote:
This makes is marginally impractical in SMP, as I typically spend the nighttime hours int he safety of my minebv310 wrote:

Also, I have enough wool that we can all have a bed. That way we can skip night. It even works in SMP, as long as everyone is asleep.
Can anyone confirm if beds reset spawn points in this new version?Read the wiki. It can'tLast edited by Claus on Tue Feb 22, 2011 7:32 am, edited 1 time in total.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Nice find esurio!
I am exploring the beds in my single player world - I think I may have hit what makes beds safe. Apparently, beds ignore adjacent walls when looking for mobs, so if you place your bed in the center of a well lit room (not touching any walls), mobs shouldnt spawn.
Or at least that is my theory, if anyone would like to help me test that, it would be appreciated.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

BTW, for the deep diggers out there, Slimes are now quite common in the game. Slimes will spawn in large caves below layer 20 or something. It seems that in SMP they are almost impossible to kill, although the small ones can't damage you. If you see a large one and can't divide it, just run away until it de-spawns. Don't build train lines below layer 20.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

My main suggestion is to have at least one tunnel branch follow the height y=12.6. That way, you are just above lava level, and can find all sorts of interesting tunnels, possibly with diamonds!Mute wrote:Working on a guess a sorta branch style mine system under my place. dunno how long/deep either of the 4 chutes will go or if each one will have it's own unique quirk.
Oh, please please please - if you get creepered in my roads or town, please report here. I dont mind at all fixing the damage (got plenty of materials), but I cant fix them if I dont know they're there.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

I tried building a smallish music box near my place - however, the lag on SMP servers in general (even when it is just a small ammount of lag), makes music tempo REALLY unreliable. I suggest many short/simple songs instead of a big one.esuriospiritus wrote:Don't build too close; I'm planning on building a giant music box at some point.
Either you are in the spawn-safe zone (a 33x33 box around the spawn point) -- or you are experiencing severe lag. Since you said your messages were taking a while to appear, it is probably lag.InflatablePie wrote:Any reason why I can't pick up any blocks and the blocks I destroy just respawn in seconds? <_<
(By the way, I logged in a few times over the weekend, and experienced no lag -- the lag on this server comes and goes unpredictably -- if you have lag, try a few hours later)
I agree with Jdodge, we need to be very careful before throwing griefing accusations around. Things can get sour really quickly. Specially things like "invisible griefers who found our server out of nowhere". If we had such malicious, evil cunning scum in the server, they wouldn't just steal a few stacks of iron and creep a few roads. This looks more like good old fashioned cluelessness to me.A lot of people wrote:Griefers griefers waaa waa waa
Socio DID take down his own shop, at least on my town, he left a plaque saying so. The remains of his original shop do look like they were burned down (glass, stairs, fences remaining, etc), but there is ALSO a plaque there from him ("damn creeping griefers", or something like that).
Creeping roads and random points around the world is NOT griefing -- it happens to everyone. I think it is rude if you don't tell others that you were creepered in a place you did not build, but I can see people who don't realize that (we need to enlighten them before slapping "GRIEFING!" around).
The missing iron is a more serious matter, but like JDodge said, there is not really possible to log block changes. I have a few suggestions:
1- Set a MOTD - I think it is possible to set a message in the server to be displayed every time someone logs in. Put something like: "Rules: Don't take things in chest that don't belong to you. If you get creepered on someone's else buildings, report at the thread: XXXXXXXXXXX"
2- IF the stealings continue, the 1.3 server has a whitelist function. This would force everyone who wants to play to post here at least once (and be reachable by PMs).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Shaking the thread up a bit - I´m 1/3 done with the hotel in Claus Town. Now when you visit, you won´t have to hunt for a place to sleep anymore. Also in the process I found a dozen of mini caves in the hills near my home, if anyone wants to explore them with me (not sure if any of them is deep or not), drop me a line when I´m online!

Something funny just happened to me. I logged in some minutes ago, and found the remains of a creeper explosion in the ouside of the building I was in, maybe 10-20 blocks away from my position - the item blocks were still scattered about - that means one of two things:
Either A- someone got creepered off less than 5 minutes before I logged in, and logged off right away (I was alone in the server) -- very unlikely
or B- creepers sometimes explode by themselves when logging in! Maybe that is old news for some of you, but I've never seen that one before.
Just in case, I left a "Time Marker" in the logs, in case the mods want to confirm that there wasn't anyone on before me
In other news, the hotel construction proceeds - slowly. Wool has been hard to come by recently.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Probably wasn't you - it wasn't close to spawn. Talking to JD on the server, it seems that logging in when laggy and at "night" may cause random creepers to explode. Creepers need "line of vision" to explode (walls/glass blocks that) - the creeper loads before the world/block loads, and may explode in this short while, even if there is a wall separating you from it. Not much can be done about that.Ellyssa wrote:It may have been me! Sorry. I was creepered SOMEwhere when it was pitch dark and I was trying to find my way back to my base after death (which prompted me to put that note in the above post after I found it again). It was fairly close to spawn, yes?
As for non-mafia players, I would wait for UA/other admins to make that call. It would be nice if any players would post on/read this thread regularly.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-

Hey guys, I have said this before, but I will happily chip in to help with the running costs. My only request is that, if possible, I don't want to use Paypal because I hate them with a passion. How much are the monthly server costs?
I don't really care for special "donator" groups, or mods in general - if people want them, okay, but I prefer things to stay as vanilla-ish as possible. On the other hand, it would be really cool if we could set up a cron job to make a weekly map of our server. I offer to help with the technical side of doing that.
Esurio, thanks for the warning about the bar. My advisor is back from this trip, so I'm super busy and won't have much time to play for the next week or two. I needed to upgrade the device anywayhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVmAG0RXmo-
