/in and I like the proposed changes so far. Daily changes is the biggest *want* for me. Pitching might be fixed by daily changes alone, because then you'll be able to make sure your starters are in the lineup only when its their turn to pitch. There'll be less of a reason to drop closers for starters with RP eligibility. I'm not against adding another P spot, just reinforcing like Zor already said, its not crucial if we go daily.

Splitting the league would be disappointing, but necessary if there is a lot of interest I guess. Too bad there isn't a way to create 2 conferences in the same league, where each conference has the full bank of players to choose from. If we create 2 leagues, maybe we could do a manual playoff matchup between the winners of each league to determine an overall winner?

I've never played in a roto league I don't think, but reading about it I think I prefer H2H.

I'm in :)

I was thinking about closers and how to make them more valuable/worth keeping around.. would it be better to just do total saves instead of net saves? I remember it feeling kinda like a double punishment last year if the closer blows a save - not only do you not get a save, but a save you already had is taken away. Same with NSB but to a lesser extent. I understand the intent but those 2 categories are the only 2 that work that way.

How much control do you have over the matchups?

Is it possible to do something like this:

-2 Leagues of 7 like AL/NL
-split the season into 3rds
-each 3rd, play first 6 weeks against all in-League opponents
-7th week would be interleague play, matchup determined by current ranking:
1a vs 1b
2a vs 2b
etc...

So it would 21 weeks total. Then do top 3 each league for playoffs for a 3 week playoff. League winners get byes. Round 1: 2a vs 3a, 2b vs 3b. Round 2: 1a vs #a, 1b vs #b, Round 3: championship.

Kinda more resembles the structure of the MLB, provides nice symmetry, and focuses on intra-league. But everyone wouldn't play everyone.

hey I noticed yahoo has no data on saves+holds for 2012, or 2013 projections. There is S+H data for 2011, but that may not be that helpful 2 years later for picking based on that stat for this year. So... how are we supposed to pick our closers/relievers?

Hard to feel good about the draft when we ran out of the "stars" and into mediocre so quickly. My gameplan got thrown off early and I was scrambling too much in rnd 4-6 ish. I feel like those were kinda the key rounds to make good picks and I feel like I dropped the ball a bit there.

Anix all they're saying is that they want to be able to grab steals without anyone tipping anyone else off, or let someone like me blow all my money bc I don't know how much players should be worth.

FWIW, if this were a live F2F auction that kind of trash talk/banter should be expected. Nothing wrong with trying to rile up a bidding war or keep people honest. But I don't think it should happen unless there is 100% participation (or at least 100% acknowledgement by whoever unable to join) in the hangout.

Lack of seriousness is the fuel of comedy. And what's funnier than the gag team beating a real one?

Best I can hope for is a tie now I think. I can maybe get a couple RBI's but thats it.

Yeah I was just looking at that this morning. Not really useful to see starting pitchers for today if they won't be on my roster til tomorrow.

Would this affect when the daily lineup needs to be set? As in, would changing this setting mean I would have to set my roster for tomorrow by the end of tonight?

Because right now my own procedure is to set my daily roster in the morning for that day. If that would change, then I'd vote no to changing the rules because I value being able to set my daily roster in the morning over being able to easily search for the next day's probably pitchers.

OK as long as that doesn't change then I'm good.

I just remember last year when we had weekly and if I didn't set my week's roster by sunday night of the week before, I couldn't make changes on monday morning, and that almost made me flake out on the whole league.

I need to learn how to baseball and make better weekly pitcher pickups. Turns out, picking up Jimenez vs the yankees yesterday, as a potential 2-start pitcher this week, was a really bad idea. Who would have guessed that? :P

Well Zor based on season stats of our lineups I think you edge me out this week. You've got OBP, HR, RBI, K's, and SV+H on me. I've got R, SB, QS, and maybe ERA. WHIP looks like an even matchup.

Well I had all my weekly roster moves left and was going to pick up anyone starting on sunday and make a run at QS (or K's but QS looked more reachable) but I forgot to do it in the morning and by the time I remembered, games had already started and my roster was already fixed. I think I only would have tied QS meaning you still would have beat me 5-4.

whoa what the hell happened I was sure I was gonna fall to the herons as of sunday afternoon. IIRC, I only had SB, K, WHIP, and QS. Everything else looked out of reach. Thanks to a combination of Jordan Zimmerman and Bartolo Colon somehow gave me ERA, and thanks to a big part by napoli's 2 HR game my team tied the HR category and somehow I got the win. Was not expecting to see that this morning at all.

Lame... I woulda tried to make moves last week instead of today if there'd have been a warning. Takes away a whole dynamic of what makes a keeper league a keeper league - being able to trade futures for players to help you now but would be too expensive to be worth keeping.

What sort of tomfoolery exactly were you hoping to prevent by making the deadline sooner?

zoraster wrote:The tomfoolery would be increasingly lopsided trades for this season.
Well yeah I mean of course there should be a deadline and all that I'm just more upset that we collectively as the whole league flat out missed it and we didn't have the whole trade deadline buyers and sellers dynamic. Its one of the things I was looking forward to all year as a neat dynamic of a keeper league.

I think we'd see the opposite of what you said though - decreasingly lopsided trades for the remainder of the season. Good value futures are increasing in value and expensive players are decreasing in value, that much is entirely true. But your conclusion is wrong. If it would have been fair to trade away Segura for Cabrera on August 3rd to help me try to catch LL, it doesn't become less fair the later in the season it gets. Cabrera is only going to continue to become less and less valuable to any team trying to compete this year. By the last week of the season, for example, there's no incentive for me to trade any futures because nobody is going to have enough time on my roster to have any affect. Its kinda like built in balancing. If this were head to head then yeah it could be unfair because 1 week of prduction could make a big difference, but in Roto it really doesn't. Not to mention, natural bidding wars between the top teams also balances out the fairness of the trades. Its the same justification for calling an auction draft fair, isn't it?

But I mean yeah I think we're already past the point where the value curves of futures and expensive elite players are crossing or have crossed. I don't think the deadline was too soon so as to prevent that dynamic at all. Just disappointed I woke up this morning sending out feelers to the bottom teams only to find that I missed the deadline by 4 days. Since everyone missed the deadline due to no announcements, I don't suppose there is any chance of getting the trade deadline extended an extra week, is there? If everyone was ok with it, that is.

My closers were likely too weak for Sv+H so I needed to take 2 hitting categories, and my lineup was just too banged up to do it. I was hoping for OBP but that still woulda left us tied best case scenario. I just needed to get lucky and hope your players gave it to me somewhere. In the end it didn't matter because my pitchers were only really good enough to get me K's and QS just by me streaming.

Since we're getting down to the end of the season... Does having a player in a DL slot at the end of the season affect anything in regards to deciding on keepers?

kmd and I had quite the nailbiter going on in the #3/4 game. He was up 4-5 going into sunday. My 4 were K, QS, ERA, and Whip. We were tied in S and he had all the hitting categories.

I had 6 starting pitchers on sunday and I sat them all rather than risk losing my slim lead on WHIP (and maybe ERA too). KMD had only 1 starting pitcher pitching so it was still a risk I could lose WHIP if his pitcher had a steller game. I was way behind on RBI, but relatively close in the other hitting categories. Couldn't catch up in runs, didn't hit any HR's, 1 SB was all that was needed to tie the category and I couldn't get that either. Neither one of us got a save to break the tie there either. It came down to the final games after 10PM where I was just barely able to steal OBP at the last minute by .001 to grab 3rd place. Great final matchup for the season. Congrats LL on pretty much dominating both leagues this year.

As a tribe fan, I love that TB and Texas both threw their best pitchers today, and will likely use their 2nd best pitchers tomorrow, leaving a 3rd best pitcher for the WC game. But in 1 game, anything can happen.
In post 997, AGar wrote:As a Red Sox fan, I am completely in love with the fact that we're likely to face someone's #2 or #3 pitcher in Game 1 of the DS.
All the aces pitched today (Moore, Darvish, Jiminez), meaning whoever wins the WC can pitch their ace game 1 on friday on a normal 4 days rest.

I'll be at the WC game on wednesday. I both tickets when they went on sale last monday. At that point tribe was still a game behind TB with 4 to play, and TB had the tiebreaker - so with the tribe needing to win out and have TB lose 2 I was thinking no way was the game actually going to be in cleveland this week but I'm happy I was wrong! :)

In fantasy news, I MIGHT have done enough to pass agar for 2nd place in the auction league on the last day of the season :P
