I love FTL. Haven't tried Advanced Edition yet.

That said, hurray for free new content. That's a rarity nowadays.

Normal mode is definitely harder with Advanced Edition content. They bumped up the costs of droid/teleporter systems, which were two of the big things that made beating the game fairly easy.

Haven't touched Hard Mode yet. Haven't seen the new race either but it seems awesome.

Also is it just me or does the hp/jump aspect of cloning bay seem mostly like it's just a minor convenience? Like I get that it could save someone if you have to blind jump after a fight when you're at a sun or something but besides that it doesn't serve a ton of functionality.

Things I've learned so far, after a handful of playthroughs...

Cloaking and a teleporter (or another way to quickly kill people and efficiently disable the flagship's weapons) are essential. That strategy hasn't really changed.

The hacking in part 1 is a bitch, though. Make sure you have level 2 oxygen bays or one well-placed hacking unit can suffocate your crew.

The ion charge laser is really amazing and efficient until you get to ships with four shields and decent engines (i.e., everything in the final sector).

Fully upgraded mind control is fantastic in conjunction with the teleporter. It can be used on flagship weapon systems but the game has glitches on me and randomly teleported the controlled person to the main part of the ship.

My first upgrades are always shields and engines. The more you dodge and absorb things, the more scrap you'll have later to buy those shiny systems and weapons upgrades that LOOK SO COOL RIGHT NOW.

Also, if you ever get in a situation where a ship can damage your shields but not hurt you, you can let the game run for like 30 minutes while you do something else and come back with mad piloting / engines / shield crew skills.
