Oman, if you want something different you should check out the Nivix Cyclops deck. It's a cutesy combo and I think a budget version cost me less than $6 online. Also, totally go to your FLGS. Support b&m venues!

Humanimator is fo reals combo. Too bad scavenging ooze completely invalidates it. I need to put my paper version back together because I promised some 12 year olds they could try it out for an event.

I've done really well with RG aggro that cost less than $20, not counting the lands. I played mono green last night and did very well, but kalonian hydra ruins the budget on that one. One of the kids borrowed my bant voltron and won a lotus with it. I think there's a decent budget version of that to be built too. Aristocrats without red might be viable, and would certainly be much cheaper.

The synergy between the oozes, the geists and the hydra is too good to ignore. I was playing Silverheart in a Yeva deck though, he's really funny at instant speed,

Idk, I feel like it sets you up for strategic removal tacking on a fog. It's less scary with mad skills. And it sets up another way for variance to screw you.

YMMV and meta and all that, but I don't think the extra toughness and ability to block are worth it in this format.

p-edit
I just don't see the toughness mattering that much.

Silverheart is certainly good, you're just trading inevitability for some fast damage. It's also not as showy as doubling predator ooze counters, and I will admit to that being a factor in the building process for that particular deck.

We did a free Modern Masters draft a couple weeks ago as a birthday gift to a friend of mine. Here's what first place won, including the playmat:

Played around with the Hero of Iroas deck that Sam Black posted a bit ago. It's probably tier 1.5 or so, because despite decent matchups all around it's about 30/70 to MBC. Stormbreath is also very difficult to deal with. A bit prone to drawing all your cards in the wrong order.

I'm mostly a limited player(I was also a filthy affinity player). I think scars limited is one of the worst limited experiences I've had in years. Theros is also pretty bad so I'm reluctant to call it -the- worse but~.

Have you drafted mirrodin recently? I found a box in my closet and we drafted it two years ago. It's painful.

Mirrodin release weekend I bought an affinity precon and won FNM with it.

Generally when I hear someone shitting on the new sets, there are a few options going on:
1. They've never played in a format with a 90% incidence of a single deck and therefore do not understand how miserable that is.
2. They've dumped a bunch of money into one of the masturbating-with-sandpaper formats and are desperate for other players/ to not feel like they've wasted their money
3. They're teenagers who dumped a ton of money into a standard deck to buy wins and are now feeling the effects of a rotation for the first time, but don't have the experience to understand WHY rotations exist.

I've been playing for 18 years and judging for 14 and magic pays my bills. I promise you that the golden age for MTG started in Ravnica block and has continued since.

What are you talking about? Embers deal the same amount of damage as lightning? There are no embers or shooting in the art, which is a bad angle of an elderly Guy Fieri using mittens to catch rocks that are flying out of an explosion. And the flavor text again totally misses on the name and implies that it is easier to throw lava with magic than emulate what dwarves commonly do with the rocks they keep in their pockets.
