I...think relegation takes priority over points? It'd be weird as hell if a team won all of Spring, drops straight down to 10th in summer, manages to get the last seed in regionals because they won Spring, make it to worlds, only to be auto-relegated as soon as Worlds was over.

I don't think that's really the problem. Gnar was fine, and the Cassio pick justifiably threw them off. I think it was the Rek'sai and Cho'Gath picks that just didn't fit with countering Fnatic or really what TSM wanted to do. Especially Cho'Gath. Sure, it'd work against Cassio, but that's only if Cho can get to Cassio past Urgot, Nautilus, and Gragas while trying in some way to keep Sivir alive. It's possible they were going for a Gnar ult-Cho Q/E- Sivir AoE-Rek'sai AoE kind of wombo, I guess.

If Bjergsen had played, say, Kassadin, he might've been able to counter Leblanc's own assassination attempts by getting to Cassio and removing that sustained AP damage, coupled with Sejuani to keep Cassio or Urgot in place.

Although, I will admit that I'd like to see Dyrus pull out champs like Irelia and be the one to carry the game. Or get surprise games like 2014 Summer Semis G5 vs. LMQ. It's unlikely to happen anytime soon, but I just want to see TSM try to let Dyrus be the carry and see if that can work sometimes.

Like, I suspected TSM would probably get 4th/3rd if AHQ or Fnatic were good simply because EDG and SKT were effectively almost insurmountable. Their loss to Fnatic was understandable because of how WTF Fnatic's comp was (And because I think cho vs. Cassio is pretty good for cho, although I think Cassio was picked after LB). The loss to SKT is okay because it's fucking SKT (although even then Reginald had better games at S3 worlds than that). But that? That shouldn't have happened.

Also, Wildturtle needs to stop building Hurricane on Kalista when he's behind. Or just not play Kalista for awhile.

I think Santorin is falling to nerves like at IEM San Jose. Katowice probably went better because of San Jose and their success during the spring split. But now that Santorin is up against

the

best of the best and not a 3rd-place team at best (though I don't want to knock their victory over CJ Entus because it was

very

well deserved), it's like he's flashing back to San Jose and letting himself go. Unless BJK beats Fnatic it's going to be BJK and TSM out from groups. And then I predict it'll be EDG vs. SKT, with SKT as the obvious winner.

Well, in NA there was only Cloud 9 and occasionally CLG or Impulse that were a problem. But CLG isn't the same as Cloud 9, Impulse may not quite be there, and Cloud 9 was a shell of their former selves; maybe not with incarnation, but that's still a question.

NA just isn't everywhere else. And now it feels like it never will be.

I'm expecting a huge surge for TiP, Liquid and Gravity, at least. Where TSM ends up will hugely depend on whether or not they realize how bad shoving Dyrus away was for them at MSI and how dedicated they are to avoiding doing that again. I mean, he may be their rock, but even a rock like him needs its support. If they do, they might very well remain at the top (although the weakness of NA in general ought to be considered when weighing being 1st in NA against other regions). If not, then they'll probably just be middling and maybe surge come playoffs.

Well, yeah, hence why I said they'd be middling at best during the season and probably surge at playoffs. Although it probably speaks to the region as a whole that a team like TSM can have such a staggeringly huge problem in the top lane and not expect a very heavy shunt to the bottom because the other teams just have more or bigger problems. Or more AND bigger problems.

I mean, Turtle helped carry TSM to two straight Worlds, 3 of 5 split championships, their first major international win in a couple years, and helped defeat two Korean squads in international tournaments (SSW in Worlds 2014, even if SSW essentially threw it; and CJ Entus at Katowice). I know that he's been falling back into bad position habits, but if nothing else Turtle can go out proud.

I think TSM needs to stop playing Mid Ez. Yes, I know it's currently the most OP (although it shouldn't be in 5.13?), but this isn't working for them. They won against TDK with it kinda-sorta on a fluke; Gravity beat them with specific counters, and 8 just beat them via having just enough to get to Bjergsen.

And I don't think it's necessarily a fault of one specific TSM player in-game (outside of it, though, whoever said go with Ez against Gragas, Thresh, Maokai, and Azir needs a kick in the pants). There's still trouble with Dyrus, I think, and they're STILL so focused on Bjergsen that AP Ez is pretty much all on the mid-laner. Let him play mid-Lulu and let Keith or WildTurtle try to carry, or something.

As for this game in particular, I would've preferred Diana.

I think the only way TSM doesn't go to worlds is if they get 3rd in reg. and then lose there. I'm expecting TSM and Gravity to be the top 2 seeds, and 4th place isn't low enough to put TSM out of 2nd seed, I don't think.

Cloud9 has the 2nd-highest but very likely isn't going to make playoffs. At best they'll be 4th-5th in Regionals, even if they make playoffs. with 100 points.
Liquid have the best change of making it to 3rd again (maybe even 2nd if they don't face Gravity in the semis), and while I don't think they'll win the split if TSM or Gravity are in the finals, they'll get the next best thing. At the same time, though, IF TSM are not knocked out of playoffs in quarters Liquid MUST place 2nd or 1st or else TSM will simply have more points and force them to relegation or 2nd seed at Worlds.

The other three (TiP, Gravity, and CLG) simply have so few points that their only options are to win in playoffs or win in regionals.

Also, AP Ez just isn't working with them. Maybe the comps for it are good, but there's just something in there that goes wrong for them when they hit the Rift. Maybe Runeglaive Diana would work better, simply because she has more tools to stay alive even if her burst isn't as stupid ridiculous as Ez's.

Gravity is the only team that looks worlds-worthy right now, anyways, with Liquid not far behind. If Dyrus could be given the attention he needs, Santorin steps up as a jungler, and whoever of Turtle or Keith they keep is allowed to tag team with Bjergsen to carry then I'd include TSM as well. Also YAY KARMA!

Though Regi said pre-game that he, at least, sees the last 4 games of the season as practice and that only playoffs and regionals matter (and they pretty much have playoffs clinched, much less regionals). If this statement is actually true, then it's either just Loco or it's because there's no real pressure that they're being passive.

Yknow, it always makes me want to look confused while shaking my head every time I hear a caster say "X player has such a deep chamption pool" but said pool is never utilitzed or even noticed in actual pro play. I just don't understand why high-level teams, especially teams like TSM, C9, etc., pick up players who have this as a plus but don't actually try to use it. I understand somewhat if the "deep pool" goes opposite of what's really viable in the game at the pro level(aka a support with Vel'koz, Soraka, Veigar, sona, etc. as their pool, with the obligatory Thresh and 1-2 other in-meta champs), but still

I don't think they should have trouble with teams like CLG, Dig, or 8 since I think they'll still make it past the quarters. But who's really going to beat Gravity or Liquid? TSM? not likely. Impulse? Possibly, but not unlikely. It'll be TSM vs. Impulse for 3rd, and Gravity vs. Liquid for the Finals. Which'll still mean TSM gets in on points, but I have little faith.

Gravity, Liquid, and LMQ 2.0 are probably our bets. Still gonna get stomped by China and Korea, and Europe, too.

With both Gravity AND Liquid losing, TSM may still make 2nd. But they have to force tiebreakers with both teams or get uncontested 1st/2nd place. And since Gravity is only 2 games ahead instead of 4 (TSM loss + Gravity win), 1st place is still within reach...so long as they win tomorrow. If TSM loses tomorrow I really doubt they'll get 1st.

Well, and Impulse and CLG might have to lose, but so long as TSM goes even with CLG there's no problem there since TSM holds 2-0.

TSM still owns at least 50% records against every team above them, though, so if they beat C9 at the very least they should be guaranteed a 3rd-place tiebreaker. It requires CLG, TiP, and Gravity to lose, though, but that should make it only a tie with TiP and Gravity because they'd automatically seed higher than CLG due to a 2-0 record, or even auto-2nd since only they(?) have a 2-0 record against one of those teams.

Although, I wonder if their singular focus on Bjergsen is directly because of Turtle's slump this split.

UoL don't have the chops to beat a team like Fnatic. Not like they are now. I'm honestly hoping H2K comes to worlds over UoL despite my preference to UoL because it's a case of Curse vs. LMQ last year. Yeah, everybody would've wanted Curse to go to Worlds for NA, but LMQ was the stronger team by a good margin and showed a performance I don't think Curse would've given.

In the same vein, I'd be happy if UoL were able to make it over H2K (because I think it's between those two if Origen isn't in the mix, otherwise it wouldn't matter because the final seed would be between which of H2K and Origien make it to that last Bo5), but I think h2K would do far better at Worlds and show the strength of EU better, maybe even allow for Eu to have two teams in the quarters (there is NO WAY Fnatic accepts anything less than getting out of groups, no way no how).

They're guaranteed 3rd place points aside from # of games because I flubbed those, but all three of us picked TSM and Fnatic to win. If Liquid wins (and assuming at least they picked the right #) that'd put them at 35.5 at most, one point behind me. If I'm right then you tack on an extra 1.5 to mine so I'm at 38.0.

I guess if they get one of the finals numbers right where I'm wrong they'd win, but only if Liquid wins and they guess the numbers correctly, yeah.

Close stuff. Shame I'll be at work so I can't watch the 3rd place. I'm pretty sure I picked 5.

Giants is doing very poorly in and of themselves, but Roccat is just a better team than them which makes it very obvious who will win.

I'm really happy Karma AND Soraka are getting picked in pro play. Shows 'em that you don't have to be someone like Annie or Thresh or whatever to win. (even if having some manner of hard engage is always nice)

Well, C9 certainly embodied being the team that surged on the patch leading up to worlds. CLG embodied the team that came together in the summer split, and TSM embodied the team that held strong throughout the entire season. If nothing else it's a striking example of exactly what Riot wanted with this new format. Kinda the same way for EU. Can't help but congratulate C9 for this.

90s

and the release of StarCraft: Brood War (more or less, it may extend back to the very original StarCraft or to another game. They've had two decades to begin, expand, and refine their coaching while the rest of the world is pretty much only now laying the groundwork to even be a hundredth of what Korea has. And while other scenes may have individual players that can stomp individual Koreans (and very rarely teams that can do so, which is why it's such an accomplishment to do so for any region that's not China), they have more for being a cohesive unit.

I honestly suspect that while Pro League of Legends may help roll the ball toward infrastructure refinement, reaching anywhere near the same level as Korea may take longer than the life of LoL itself. I mean, it might not, but that depends on how quickly everyone gets on the train and starts making everything fit to last for LoL specifically and E-sports in general.
