I mean Eldritch Spear has 250ft range, hits vs Touch, doesn't require you to burn a feat, no need to reload, and its damage scales with level.

The rifle gives you 1d12 plus some odd bonus damage if you dump feats/ranger levels on it.

You can always refluff Warlock to fit flavor.

Kat vs Danum thing is amusing to read, but your characters are built differently (Kat is off-tank DPS and Danum is support tank) and shouldn't really be compared.

Someone should compile a to-do list in thread, so you guys can figure out where to allocate each player.

I think I'm going to name the female gnome mage Two Prime.

I think the 30 min head start thing we did really help time-wise, and we should do it again for this week if possible.

I really enjoyed reading LLD's theories. Do you guys have anything to add theory-wise?

Explosive runes won't work since they need to be read to blow up.

Shrink item lasts days, so carrying them around is not a problem.

Bombs are expensive, but I've seen similar strategy done with a giant boulder. (6d6 damage each)

Who can use Wall of Stone to generate giant boulders in bullet shapes, and then you can shrink them and carry them around.

Though if you ever were to walk into an antimagic field carrying these bullets, they would return to normal size all at once and you would be crushed and killed.

History of Lunar Island

Summary

No Two drinks and drinks. Eventually, he finds himself with no money, items, at 1 hp, lying

naked

minimum clothes in his pool of vomit on the cold hard floor. (this is what rock bottom looks like) Female Gnome mage finds him and notifies him that she found a doll with a soul gem similar to the one No Two was carrying. She demands to know what the other dolls said, but No Two collapses in his pool of vomit. Disgusted, she leaves. She asks Danum for the messages, which he supplies. They get ready to rescue whoever it is in trouble in the warehouse.

Avina and Ether discovers that the Nolan's body is a fake. William gets enraged, but they calm him down. They find a note from Magara that condemns Lord Mycon. They reconvene with the main party, and decide to try and use a scroll to reanimate Nolan's body and freak out Lord Mycon. They ask Elliot to calm William down, and Karl and Kat go to Las Verisa to look for No Two.

Kat and Danum manage to make things smoother between No Two and Two Prime (the female gnome mage) and they rush the warehouse. Bunch of hooded men attack them. A half-orc is getting tortured by a very attractive woman at the back of the warehouse. They try to stop her, but the hooded men buy long enough time for her to teleport away with her prisoner. They capture one of the hooded bandits, but he seems incoherent. Two Prime leaves, sad that she wasn't able to help the prisoner.

No Two buys an Animate Dead scroll, and they prepare to return to Lunar Island at sunrise. Back in the mansion, Ether and Avina find a piece of History of the Lunar Island, and a handwritten note, in the library.

I enjoyed Who's roleplaying of No Two at rock bottom today.

Danum isn't a bad wingman, but No Two kept disappointing her. I don't think Two Prime would be interested in a relationship with a alcoholic failure like No Two.

Having Kat for Diplo checks was really refreshing.

Warehouse fight went smoothly enough I guess, but I'm bit sad that you guys all just fell over to your knees by a single spell. (KNEEL FOOLS)

Discovering the fake body required a DC 26 spellcraft check. Good thing Ether rolled wonderfully there.

As you guys may have noticed, most of the pieces to the puzzle are there now. I hope you guys are ready for some very difficult fights up ahead.

Yeah I looked into it before, basically just extra hitpoints specifically for arrow related damage, if I understand correctly. I just wanted to limit DPS of the opposition

Now that you're wielding a magic bow, your arrows will penetrate the damage reduction.

10/Magic means subtract 10 damage from each arrow, unless the arrow is enchanted.

Summary.

Elliot, Primrose, and Obob have been taken away to the cove. PCs fight through a horde of undead, witches, just to see Primrose, Mycon, and Obob get sacrificed to summon a demon lord. Serria completes the summoning and stands there dazed, as the demon lord crashes into the party's frontline. It was close, but the party defeats the demon lord. Serria is no longer brainwashed.

Old Norbit's Tale

After you defeat the witches, draconic runes begin to glow on the side of the cove. Quick spellcraft check reveals that the presence and resonance of the soul gem fragments is what triggered the runes to glow.

Sections of it have been weathered away, but you can make out most of the written characters. This is what it says:

......with the pirate Redford's defeat, we thought the days of fighting were behind us. That was not to be. Rislyn, Redford's demonic lieutenant and lover, has survived the defeat of her master, took advantage of the massive number of death and casualties of the conflict to create a rift to the abyssal plane under the island keep. Victor and my master fought underground to keep the demons contained, while Luna prayed to her goddess to reveal a way to seal the rift. Lytana answered her prayer by uncovering the Oceanic Heart deep beneath the surface. The rift can be suppressed in the presence of the artifact’s overwhelming magical aura...

....My master sent me, his strongest and most loyal servant, to retrieve the artifact, and shut himself in his workshop to craft additional reinforcements. Luna and Victor, aided by a constant stream of Damian's machines, should have been enough to hold the demons at bay indefinitely...

....It took me about two weeks to travel the vast underwater distance to retrieve the artifact. When I finally returned to my master's mansion, I was met with a tragic sight. My master had been murdered! And something has hurt him enough to have his spirit cling to this world beyond death. In his agony and insanity, he has murdered all of his servants, ripped their souls out, and put them into dolls and constructs, to unquestioningly serve his will for eternity. Their souls power the machines, but their spirits slumber...

...I immediately left for the Lunagard Keep, for surely priestess Luna would be able to help. Not a living soul greeted me at the keep. I slowly made my way to the underground battleground, expecting to find the demonic gate fully open. Instead, I was barred from going further by a ghost. I almost didn't recognize her at first, but it was Luna! or at least what was left of her spirit. I was unable to communicate with her, but after weeks of investigations and hunting down for spell traces, I was finally able to deduce what happened. Treacherous Rislyn had ambushed my master in his workshop under a disguise to make her look like Luna. Her demonkind specializes in impersonating clerics, and in his state of mental and physical exhaustion from nonstop production of machines, my master fell, undoubtedly cursing Luna for her betrayal. It would be some time before my master's vengeful spirit rose, and in the meantime, Rislyn had put all of the servants to sleep and hidden them away. When Luna visited my master's mansion to inquire why the machine reinforcements have stopped, she discovered the mansion to be completely empty, creating a deception that Damian has fled. In desperation, Luna cast a powerful spell to keep her spirit chained to keep's underground, and sealed it all. I do not know what happened to Victor, but I suspect that he was eventually overcome against the overwhelming numbers of the demonic horde...

...Rislyn has been on the hunt for me ever since she realized I had survived. I have managed to evade her so far...

...The nearby presence of the Oceanic Heart blocked the demons from crossing into the Material Plane. Unfortunately, the artifact was shattered during Turin's invasion. It will only be a matter of time before demons break through Luna's ward and surface. In addition, the old Coven has returned to the island and have infiltrated the Lunagard Mansion....

...I am going to attempt to risk contacting Millicent, our master's head maid. Based on remote observation, her spirit seems to have awakened. I will relay her all I know. I will most likely be hunted down by Rislyn afterwards. I do not fear death, but I wish that I could see my master smile just one more time...

I'm going to also give away what happened after Norbit contacted Millicent, since Rook is going to reveal all this after you guys return from the cove.

Millicent, indeed, was awake, but still bound by Damian's will, which meant she was bound to the premises. Norbit told her everything he knew, and asked her to split her soul gem. She was hesitant to do so, but she understood the significance of what's at stake here, and obliged. By fragmenting her soul gem, it allowed her to split identity into multiple dolls. She lost all emotions that day, and her emotionless self remains at the Damian mansion. The other six dolls infiltrated the Lunagard Mansion, some of them taking the places of the servants there. (real Rook and Bishop were put to sleep and hidden) She bid her time, watching over the visitors and the heirs, to see which of them could be trusted and able to help. The PCs defeating the witches and finding Old Norbit's message convinced her that they can be trusted.

Rook is the final doll, the Green doll of Joy. After his explanation, his appearance fades away, revealing him for the doll he is. Millicent asks the PCs to come to the Damian mansion, defeat the mockery of what his master once was, and finally put his spirit to rest.

Summar

PCs traveled down into the Damian mansion and fought off the constructs. They eventually defeated Damian's revenant. An insanely lucky Caster level check by GIF was involved.

NO session next week.

Week after that, we have the final session of this campaign, where PCs go down into the Lunagard keep basement and fight off the invading demons.

There are two problems with summoning builds. You can fix one with a super well done macros and decisiveness, but you can't fix the other one.

First problem is the gameplay time consumed by such builds. It's very easy for a player to take up double, triple, or even quadruple amount of time his/her party members take up when he/she is trying to control 5 different creatures at once. This problem can be somewhat alleviated by planning out your turn in your head and writing out easy-to-read macros.

Second problem is how the summoning itself is handled in the system. Generally, summoned creatures are very weak, for obvious balance reasons. Couple with the fact that summon spells take 1 round to cast and are easy to interrupt, and that intelligent foes know not to focus your summons, trying to swarm the enemy with mooks is generally inefficient and/or ineffective. (for example, fighting an army of zombies with an army of zombies is generally ineffective and just takes up time, as opposed to turning them, fireball, or buffing a barbarian who has the cleave feat)

Sneak attack ray builds depends heavily on how much of rogue and how much of spellcasting (or warlock) you want to mix.

They are very viable, very fun to play, and very difficult to pull off.

Changeling has the shapechanger subtype, which qualifies it for the War Shaper prC.

It's a very viable build. I've seen it done once in the pre-power attack optimization era, and it dominated the board.

But, if you have 9 levels in swiftblade, you get

perpetual options

if you're under haste, which actually grants you an additional standard action if you wish, which you could use to cast a second standard action spell.

Enchanter starts casting sleep. Illusionist casts color spray and disable couple. Transmuter looks around sadly for someone to cast enlarge person on and realize he needs a melee PC ally to be effective. Necromancer shoots ray of enfeeblement and weakens one. Evoker casts magic missile and damages 1. Abjurer casts shield. Conjurer casts grease to try and block off a side. Diviner can't do anything.

On goblin's turn, they all throw spears. 3 of the wizards die, and 2 of them are at 1 hp. TPK.

The reason I'm asking is because if I was a player, I would step away from a board if my DM told me ahead that the campaign is going be very minimally combat. While I respect players who prefer RP over combat, I know I wouldn't have much fun as a player if there was going to be very little combat involved.

While knowledge devotion feat is recommended in a number of duskblade handbooks out there, it's mostly a trap.

Highest damage duskblade build is the one that minimizes Int in favor of pumping Str.

ConMan, there is a variant half-elf in DMG that I allow that I forgot to mention.

They are nicknamed "half-human" elves, and they represent half-elves that were raised by elves, rather than by humans.

You might be interested, since they gain proficiency with the longbow.

Clerics don't get proficiency with their deity's favored weapon, unless the cleric chooses the war domain. (in which case, the cleric receives not only the proficiency, but also Weapon Focus feat in that weapon)

Possible different directions, or, things that could have been!

Act 1:

All I have written down for Bord is that it's a mining/craft town run by dwarves, and that lots of merchants hire guards for their goods.

If you guys head down earlier into the dungeon, Arthur may not make the deal with the goblins and betray everyone. It depends on how strong of an impression you guys make.

Clearing out the monastery was definitely the correct choice. More xp is worth, especially because you guys have such a large party, and in desperate need of xp.

Act 2: (first part)

If one of the female PCs who got hit on by Toronto accept his offer of money for uhhh "companionship", then you end up going up to his room and having dinner there, while he shows off his jewelry collection. Izzy proceeds with the plan, however, and knocks on the door, killing Toronto instantly when he opens the door. When he notices that you are behind the door, he attempts to murder you as well.

Not stopping at the inn will not matter, since Marion is keeping a firm lookout for Avina down the road. Camping in the woods just gets you ambushed by bunch of Marion's bandits. Izzy kills Marion in the meantime, when all her minions are away. This simply means you guys miss out on lots of background information. (it's generally a good idea to try and interact as much as possible to take advantage of all the things DM prepared for you)

The other party actually all left the rooms silently in the middle of the night by climbing out the windows (waking up and dragging out NPC Avina too) and congregating in the wine cellar. They didn't trust Marion and her ex convicts much. This proved to pay off in the long run, as Grub was confused as of how they could have escaped during the night, and the commotion upstairs woke them up, giving them enough time to run outside and meet the ex convicts in a straight fight, rather than an ambush. (They locked Avina in the wine cellar for her protection) (they basically treated the entire campaign as a glorified escort mission, and went great lengths to assure that Avina didn't wonder off)

Act 2: (second part)

Obviously, the key to doing well in the city is to make a great impression with Halle right away, and most of your problems magically disappear. Having Marion alive really scores points with Halle, so fastest way is to just go visit the Lunagard House with Marion in tow. The dwarf secretary guy will not let you in. Teleporting/invisibility + levitate or fly into Halle's room works. Pretty much anything works really, because Marion is the trump card when dealing with Halle.

You can also use Marion as a bargaining chip and force Halle to do certain things. This doesn't make for as good of an ending.

Pinay the gnome is a coward, and intimidate is how you take control there. Helping his assistant Linny not get arrested doesn't score any points with Pinay. (Pinay will promptly fire her immediately after Gundabog leaves) Linny has a ton of info regarding the circus, and this is probably the most direct route that will lead you to James, the person Halle hired to keep the dinosaurs sedated. Otherwise, there's not really any way to find James until the Rainsberg Ball.

Izzy is most vulnerable at the Rainsberg Ball assassination run, since his location is pretty much locked in. Not killing him here means he shows up at the warehouses as the dinosaurs are waking up. Not killing him there means he will be with Tuhin at the last fight of Act 2.

Izzy had a storm elemental companion, Sariel, who generally spends her time far above the skies of Las Verisa. Flying 1000ft above the city will let you find her easily. (a patch of stormy clouds in a sunny day)

Alternative routes involves each of the police captains. Talking to Jin gets you involved in investigating the death of his superior, (ultimately leading to Izzy), while buttering up to Islow with lots of flattery and cash underneath the table can net you a real chance at capturing James early. (basically the weed man for the entire town) Impressing Gundabog will require a gift of powerful magic weapon, or an awesome display of force. (i.e. go pick fights with bunch of thugs at the seedy bar/dock warehouse and knock them all unconscious with nothing but your ale mug)

Failure to eliminate the dinosaurs before the invasion means that the PCs have to fight a number of megaraptors before engaging Tuhin, possibly expending a decent chunk of their resources. Not befriending Halle before the Tuhin fight means that Grey won't listen to the PCs and continue to fight alongside Tuhin to his death. Befriending Halle, and letting it slip to Izzy (or really anyone that reports back to Tuhin) that you guys are working with Halle against Tuhin means Tuhin kills Grey and uses his body parts for a flesh golem, which you get to face at the final fight, instead of wand wielding Grey.

Act 3

It's actually possible to rescue Santa, if you catch on that there's something fishy about his deck hand. Briefly talking to Santa about the deck hand reveals that Santa's usual helper disappeared few days ago, and that the deck hand is stowing away some crates that are not suppose to be there. (the crates are full of knives which will be later be used by Evans the killer)

Talking to Serria pretty much gets you nowhere. She holds most of the cards (as some of you rightly deduced), but she is brainwashed and working alongside the witches. She discreetly leaves the mansion every night to go convene with her coven at the cove. Tracking her is a high-risk move that could be very rewarding. Attacking the cove while Serria is NOT there is probably the easiest way to defeat the witches, remove Serria's brainwashing, and stop the lobster demon ritual. Realizing early the importance of Serria-Michelle relationship is also good. The witches were told by Serria not to kill Michelle or her family, and witches were looking for ways to drive Michelle away from Serria.

Damian mansion exploration is basically only for crazy people and should not be attempted trivially, as you can get easily TPK'd there in the anti-tp zone. The reaper dolls are all armed with magic, and Millicent's emotionless body shows no mercy to trespassers. She is an illusionist 7/Rog 1/Unseen Seer 1 with a lot of potential for silent assassinations as the PCs wonder around the mansion.

Reading books about the history of Lunagards in the family library will get you enough information to figure everything out. Alternatively, talking to Rook/Bishop and earning their trust gets you all the info you need. (since they are Millicent's emotions).

The "best" ending involves finding the secret entrance down to Lunagard Keep basement behind Victor's statue at the end of East wing, going down and finding the spell circle and Luna's sleeping ghost. At this point, Rook attacks, intending to stop trespassers from messing with Luna's ward. Defeating Rook isn't too hard, and it forces Bishop to reveal herself as Millicent and gamble that you guys are trustworthy. Beating the witches prior to doing this means it's easier to convince her that you guys are trustworthy. Then, you need to find the music Damian wrote for Luna's wedding. It's in the old piano Ether is playing all the time in the guesthouse. Playing this song wakes up Luna's spirit, and she tells you that Victor is stuck on the other side, and she wants you guys to travel and rescue him. You guys can then travel to Abyss and find Damian, mind controlled and inhabited by demons. It's a rough fight, but defeating him without killing him and returning him to the material plane with his sword allows him to lock down the rift, winning the campaign.

In the first day there where the servants run out of meat for dinner, you can actually offer to hunt some and go into the woods. You end up fighting a dire bear, but bringing back meat earns you points with Julia.

I mentioned this, but the original plot line can involve Ether and William possibly falling in love with each other. If they end up getting married, then Ether becomes a valid sacrifice for the witches' ritual. (she is 1/8th elf)
