wgeurts and I just had a couple of SUPER bad duo runs. Not having voice comms really hurts, I had a hard time spotting people and he had to stop to type callouts (or use map marker).

Bleh tunnels.
I also avoid the cities, apartments, base, etc. when playing solo. Small clusters of houses that aren't directly on the flight path will usually afford you some time to get fear and then you can manage the game from there
That said I've been on a terrible cold streak the last couple of days.

Learning how to loot is definitely a thing, but it gets better with practice. It also gets better more quickly as you play with others, because you have to communicate (weapons, mods, extra backpacks & armor) so you become more aware of what you're doing more quickly.
My biggest weakness is spotting movement at a distance. I know it's something I need to work on, but I'm not really sure HOW to improve it.

Raise your AA and Post Processing to medium/low if lower than that and depending on the frame hit, that sharpens the image at longer range. What uses more FPS but reaaaalllly helps is raising your screen scale.
I think my settings are where they need to be (aside from View Distance, maybe -- I've heard some say that higher is better for spotting people at distance, others who say lower is better), it's really more an awareness issue I think.
EDIT: Actually now I'm paranoid lol. Gonna post my specs and current in-game settings & let you assess whether I should make changes.

2 more second places (one duo, one solo) and a third place (duo) in the last ~18 hours. Still haven't had solo chicken dinner...
Every time I finish top 5 but don't win I look back on what I could have done differently/better.
In the duo 2nd place, there was no option really, my teammate got ambushed before the first circle closed and I just outlasted until it came down to me vs a duo. I got one but couldn't shoot the other before he downed me.
The third place duo, I got antsy and took down someone when I could have just waited. Revealed our position and we got taken out.
In the 2nd place solo game, I knew where both other guys were when it was down to 3. Killed one, circled around the other, and simply MISSED MY FIRST TWO SHOTS before he turned around and killed me. I was overall really proud of this performance, 4 kills including two in the top 5. A suppressed UMP with a red dot very nearly took me to victory, I just derped at the final moment. But my movement and vision were great, I did a better job of checking my flanks, and if it weren't for a failure to aim properly I would have had my first solo win.
Definitely some confidence-boosting performances, my rating is steadily climbing and I just feel more comfortable in nearly every phase of the game, I just need to practice more I think.

EBWOP:
Effects: This setting relates to things like explosions, among other elements. It might have a more noticeable impact on performance with explosions going off (eg, in a red zone), but for the test scene dropping to very low only improved performance by 1 percent.

I'm in one of those "high finish but no chicken dinner" ruts.
Just played two duo FPP games with a friend, we got 3rd and 6th, but those last two circles just aren't working out.
EDIT: I don't think PUBG went on sale during Steam Summer Sale, I was keeping an eye on it to see if I could convince some of my other friends to get it. It's still in early release, and its popluarity is still growing, so I don't really forsee a sale price in the near future.

Sorry about last night zor, I fell asleep at my computer (I have a comfy desk chair <_<).
Finished 2nd in a Duo-FPP today. Came down to me vs a duo, got the first but died to the second. This guy and I have played a bunch of duos together and have def built up a strong rapport. We think & strategize alike and often make like top 6 in duo.

Yeah. 3rd isn't something I should be annoyed at, but I am. I have yet to break that glass ceiling. In this case, I just didn't see somebody who shot me in the side of the head. One tiny lapse of concentration means you're dead.

A summary of my recent PUBG luck:
Did a couple of squads with some friends last night. Last one of the night, one of my buddies ran into a tree while we were driving into blue, knocking out himself and me. Other two couldn't get to us in time, so we die before the second circle finishes closing. I bid them goodnight because I have to work early, disconnect and go to bed.
Wake up to find that the other two earned chicken dinner. So I got killed by a teammate through no fault of my own, left to go to bed because it wasn't worth finishing out the round since I had to work, and consequently missed out on the BP and ratings for winning. (I know ratings reset today, but I'm still salty about that.)

Played a few rounds since getting back from vacation. 3rd, early-death, 8th. Still feel like I'm shaking off the rust (had only two kills and easily could have had two more if I wasn't terrible at aiming). STILL in search of Solo-FPP chicken dinner, though.

I still rarely get games where buildings either don't load in at all, or they look terribly deformed, blocky, and pixellated. Either way, I can walk through them and loot through objects/walls/etc. Only way to fix it appears to be a game restart. Drivers are up to date, graphics settings are basically all Low/Very Low (except view distance), and it's infrequent (1 in maybe 20-30 games). But it's hella annoying when it happens.

I would be up for duo/squad after baby goes to bed tonight (830ish EDT hopefully -- she's still adjusting back to east coast time so it may be a little later than that)

Played 2 solo games earlier today. In one, I spotted two Level 3 helmets AND three 4x scopes in one cluster of buildings (one of the the groups of 6 along he south shore of the mainland).
In the other one I landed at a cluster of 4 near Farm, found one each of 8x, 4x, 2x scopes and enough red dots & holos to gear a small army.
RNG spawns are weird, man.
Side note: I know that the tommy gun isn't very good but I fucking love using it.

Got to play in fog for the first time today. Had one hilarious moment where I had just dropped and was running along the road Southwest of Yasnaya and heard a vehicle approaching. I dropped prone and it stopped just a few feet away next to a tiny roadside shack. The guy got out and headed towards the picnic table in front of it to grab an energy drink so I boxed him out (because no gear yet). The dude was LOADED, he must have dropped at Yas and looted quickly & grabbed the jeep to get to circle early.
I then drove the jeep to a complex and promptly got shotgunned by a guy I couldn't see.

I also had an AMAZING pair of ~200m headshots on people who were mid-jump, both members of a duo. Definitely a decent chunk of luck but I wouldn't be surprised if they reported me lol.

I've gone three or four days now without a chicken dinner. On one hand, that totally FeelsBadMan. On the other hand, it makes me realize how far I've come since celebrating any Top 5 solo finish. <_<

A couple of weeks ago, I committed to trying to make more effective use of nades. I feel like I've gotten pretty good at using smoke grenades in duo/squad to provide cover, but I'm still not great at using molotovs or frags. Got a frag nade kill earlier, and looking back at the replay, it's pretty apparent that they got a significant buff (though it's worth noting that I did get a headshot with my UMP a fraction of a second before the nade goes off).
The frag kill is the second kill in this clip. (Sidenote: I actually had no idea that two people dropped with me at this complex, I only saw the one parachute when I was dropping. But I wanted to include the first kill, too, because clutch pistol headshot vs the guy with an AKM.)

I might be up for some PUBG late tonight. Brother flew into town to surprise me for birthday weekend but after we're done hanging out I should be good (assuming I don't simply pass out)

Yeah that's pretty big. The reason I occasionally forego an 8x (and frequently ignore a 15x) is because it just automatically zooms in too far for me. This changes makes those pretty much strictly better than the 4x.
I also think that the long range accuracy reduction of ARs will help with a lot of those open field late-game circles. It does put even more of a premium on snipers, though. We'll see how it plays out!
