Was gonna replace the standard civs with new ones featuring the game's myriad animal people and while scanning through different types noticed there are no humanoids variants of any greater or lesser apes, so I just gave the apes [intelligent] and made civilizations of them a la Planet of the Apes since they already have all the requisite body parts.
It took me forever to start messing with the raws but it's super easy and fun.
I had a plump helmet man bard visitor. That mushroom person just stood around in my tavern and never got to chat with anyone because they don't have the [CAN_SPEAK] tag.

They actually put up a developer update recently laying out the "next several months" or something like that until release. It seems like the work is like 90% making menus lol. My reading was that a 2022 release was a possibility so the game will likely come out next year!
