Population cap is a joke. A JOOOOKE, I tell you.
I only say that since I can comfortably handle 300 dorfs, but anyway.
I'd be down for this, assuming we're using most recent version?
Also, yeah, everyone should
pay some other dorf lots of platinum to impersonate them so they can escape
name a dorf after themselves.

More dwarves is always better - there is always a free axe in the military! :-P

That said, making sure everyone can actually RUN the damn fortress is an important point in a sucession fort, so everyone try to keep the population between 50 and 80 by the end of your turn... by whatever means necessary, mwahahaha!

Since there are no other prefs I'll probably pick a temperate/cold mountainside with a river and flux. Vanilla of Vanilla. I'll edit the world creation parameters as follows:
Cavern Openness: 60-100, passage density: 0-5 to prevent those ugly mazes of twisty passages. If you have any other requests, I will create the world in about 8-10 hours, after I return from work.

I'll post the 7 initial dwarves when I start, so you guys can pick your impersonations :-P

I
would
/in for a succession game, but I've never figured out what to actually do.

which i would argue is better, but eh

No one really does, Drench!

BTW, I found a nice embark location, with lots of trees, snow, a river, two natural towers to build on, marble, limestone,

... and skeletal marmots!

I'll post updates as I play.

This would be fun, if I know what the hell I was doing with DF.

Please... please tell me there's nothing else... skeletal about?

Also, we should get a turn listing sorted. I'm happy to go last on the rotation. Whoever
kills
has fun with a fortress has to start a new one?

you know what? I think that the succession should be in mish mash. this should just be a discussion.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay - my first embark, for some mysterious reason, was lagging like hell (30FPS for the 7 dwarves - WTF?), so I had to regen the world.

So no more undead livestock roaming the land - the new embark is still temperate forested (LOTS OF TREES!) with a small aquifer as the limitless source of water.

The play order is the order of people who said they wanted to play - I think this is the fairest.

Drench, Dizzy, please join! The fact that you don't know what you are doing just makes it better! :-P

I made a thread in Mishmash for the game:
http://mafiascum.net/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 88&start=0

It's Nikanor's turn! Send me the savefile if you don't have a place to host it!

Okay, fine, /in, but I reserve the right to demand you disregard my save.

The hard parts at this point are:
1. knowing what the long-term things-to-do are
2. deciding how much defense is right - how about building a huge wall around the above ground map?
3. proper labor allocation
4. so many details... some can be researched on the wiki, some can't.

Maybe loading some of the save files from the sucession game will help.

Whatever the fuck you want, preferably something you havent done before

2. deciding how much defense is right - how about building a huge wall around the above ground map?
There is never too much defense

3. proper labor allocation
half your pop as hauler, the other half in the military when they're not doing useful things like making beer or drinking beer

4. so many details... some can be researched on the wiki, some can't.
Losing is Fun

Wow, this game looks extremely complicated.

I really doubt I'd ever try to learn to play unless I was:
a) in the 80's and there really was nothing better
b) in prison with 56k, lots of time and no speed
c) drunk and on Vent with all my friends

Now, if c) is a possibility, let me know. Otherwise... sorry. :(

I don't know HOW many times have I pointed to the links in the op... That newb guide will save you a ton of time... and cut the learning curve down to about a couple of hours if you pay attention.
