The 'not responding' in phase 2/7 is almost always a problem with not enough memory. It's trying to prep all the graphics which get built during load time.
Recommended is 4GB if you have it.

To whoever "ele" is in IRC - the not responding happens to me too because I have super slow old laptop. If you let it go long enough eventually it powers through and loads up. However, I allocate up to 4 GB of ram for it which helps as dave said. To do that, right click and edit settings then go to memory or java tab (can't remember what it's exactly called). You'll see a min, max and permgen settings. Change the max to 4096 for 4 GB. Make sure you have at least 1.5 to 2 GB left over for the computer itself to run.

You can check how much total RAM the computer has by right clicking on my computer and choosing properties.

^ More important than how much you have leftover, in some cases, is how you’re dividing your RAM module-wise. I had issues with that awhile back; essentially, try to allocate RAM in whole modules whenever possible. e.g. If you have 8 GB total in 2 4 GB modules, allocating 6 by splitting the 2nd module of 4 GB may sometimes hurt more than it helps if you’re running a few things in the background.

As much as I love Chrome, it’s the biggest offender here, sometimes eating up 400 MB with enough tabs or extensions. Just be careful, and don’t try to push your device past what it’s capable of, because you WILL regret it (all this is mostly @whoever ETL was talking to on IRC)

I think I’ve talked about this before, but we should really be using the LATEST or the RECOMMENDED version, not some random version that one of the mods happens to have been built against. Forge isn’t like other mods; it’s constantly building to new versions, yes, but those aren’t “bleeding-edge tech” such that we need to wait to see if they work before switching. New versions will have fixes for wonky code, or new hooks and methods that fix some problems in other mods.

If there’s no RECOMMENDED version high than the one that mod needs, just use the latest. When we finalize the pack or next update mods for testing, we should check again: “new Rec version?” If not, use latest. That’s what people will ask first if we ever want support from any number of places; there’s nothing more annoying than having an issue and talking to people for support only to eventually come up against the brick wall response “this was fixed in a more recent update of Forge; don’t use old versions of Forge, etc.”

there is a recommended two versions old now, that is newer than 75.

already mentioned this to arch about upgrading to recommended for the production server, after beta phase

Here's what I have but I'm sure I've missed something. Please put reminders as needed.

Forge to a more current recommended
DaVinci
Adv Generators (better mid-generation than big reactors, gives a use for manylln after you have all the tinker tools)
Open Computers (arch wants a robot to automate the forestry charcoal pit!)
Ore excavation
Don't have optifine in the client download
Rustic (M wants and I know it's good)
The One Probe (improves certain aspects of the things WAWLA gives you, Oso likes it and it's not a big deal to add)
Simple void world (easier to use than RFTDim's void)
Something that lets you flip between duplicate recipes that take the same inputs (forgot the name)

Edit: Barrels (yabba?) - Oso makes a really good case for them -- you can 'skin' them with any material to make them fit into your wall material :)

Edit2: The mod that lets us jump fences
Hatchery

Standard thump & ftbutils configs (can I just delete them and have them regen?)
Turn off duplicated oregen and adjust TE for balance. Except bauxite -- IE and TR bauxite process differently to different results and are not interchangable.

Pedit: Optifine is fine for local, but there are some who objected to it being in the client download by default. We can discuss though. :) Also I don't think it is available directly on curse/twitch and I'm planning/hoping to put the pack up on the twitch launcher and for download from that site.

Is YABBA the one in Revelation? I REALLY liked that one because you can break them and they keep their contents and you have the barrel hammer/painter, etc.

Immerisve engineering mod that adds oil, was in revelation

Yes YABBA is also in revelation. The main selling point, which I think will win ETL over, is the ability to skin the barrels to match your walls. :)
